New Staff Spotlight

We're happy to welcome Katie Black to the AAC team as an Academic Coach!

Katie is a Pre-Nursing major with a Philosophy minor. When Katie isn't studying, Katie enjoys curling up with a good book or cheering on a hockey game.

It’s been four (very) long years but i finally did it. Here we have photos at some of my favorite places such as @tatestreetcoffee where I spent 95% of my time at and the swing set (which is the reason why i chose UNCG in the first place.) Thanks so much to everyone who supported me through this journey!

Photos were taken by: @sean.j.norona (thank you!!)

Meet the First Years!

IARc 1st Year students spent this morning making contour line drawings, using viewfinders to study several alternate compositions of plants. This exercise focuses on drawing the contours of negative space and composing a balanced arrangement of positive shapes and negative space.

We look forward to seeing how these new students learn how to design a new world for us.

Students, friends, and colleagues,
The UNCG Department of History is thrilled to announce that the UNCG Jewish Studies minor is now under our department and Dr. Ellen Haskell is now a faculty member in our department, per a decision made this summer by Chancellor Gilliam and Provost Boyette. One of Dr. Haskell's courses that has been converted to a history course is on our Fall 2024 schedule (see below). Feel free to contact Dr. Haskell if you have any questions (edhaskel@uncg.edu).

HIS 331: Judaism & the Construction of Gender
Instructor Ellen Haskell; In Person; Credits 3:3
CRN 84527
CIC College Writing; WGS; IGS; Jewish Studies Minor
Did you know that ancient Judaism recognized at least 4 sexes? Or that medieval Jews considered God multi-gendered? That Conservative Judaism has offered an inclusive guide for trans ritual life since 2017? Or that American Jewish women are fighting anti-abortion laws as violating their religious freedom? These are just a few of the topics we'll explore as we discuss how the Jewish tradition constructs gender and sexuality, in both the past and present.

Helloooo, fellow members of the Gardening Club! I hope you all enjoyed your summer.

As the new semester approaches, I have some exciting news to share with you. Our Garden Club will be participating in this year's Fall Kickoff tomorrow. August 15th from 11am-3pm on College Avenue. This event is an excellent opportunity for us to recruit new members and spread the word about our club. If you'd like to help out with set up and clean up, or provide information about the Garden Club, please don't hesitate to contact me. We're currently seeking volunteers.

Additionally, the new semester will commence on August 16th and 18th. Our garden is in need of some maintenance, including weeding, removing spent crops and plants, mowing, weed whacking, and watering. We will be sending out an email with a sign-up sheet for that week, so please keep an eye out for it. Let's work together to make this semester a success! I look forward to seeing each and every one of you in the garden once again!

Some tips for fulfilling your language requirement:

1. Start your language courses early! Waiting until close to graduation means that you miss out on opportunities to study/work/live in another country.

2. Take in-person language courses so that you can interact with your instructor in real time!

3. Enroll in German 101 in-person courses and pay nothing for books, workbooks, etc.!!!
