The IARc Fall Kickoff event was a rousing success! We welcomed new and returning students to IARc with a two-day, pizza-fueled kickoff where students learned more about our department resources, student organizations, and offerings, such as: Internships, Historic Preservation, @uncgmainstreetfellows , Disciplinary Honors Program, Woodshop, CAM Lab, @iarc_connect , @uncg_olce Bronze and Silver Challenges, IARc Newsletter, IARc Student Council, and the IARc Study Abroad Program.

THANK YOU to all of the student volunteers who spoke with all students in and interested in our department over the last two days. We wouldn't be who we are without our students and alumni!

Welcome Back IARc Spartans! Here's to a great start to the semester and to a successful 2026-27!

For these students, Spartan Service Day is more than giving back. It’s about making a difference, building connections, and strengthening the community we call home.

Hear why service matters to them and see how Spartans are creating positive change, one act at a time.

Coming into my first semester at UNCG, I told myself I was done playing around. After taking my break from high school, I came into college focused, motivated, and ready to see what I was truly capable of.

This semester alone, I was able to place Top 4 in the Bryan Gold Challenge, join ALPFA and be appointed Financial Director for the 2026-2027 academic year, complete the Bronze Leadership program, and finish the semester with a 4.00 GPA and all A’s. We’ll see how long I can keep that 4.00 alive 😂

One thing I’ve learned already is to get involved as soon as you start college. Put yourself out there, take opportunities, network, and challenge yourself because it truly pays off in the end.

Over the past year, our department admin, Lauren Matlosz, coached former IAR student, Noon, through the Silver Experience offered through the @uncg_olce Spartan Leadership Challenge series. Having completed both the Bronze and Silver experiences herself, Lauren believes the program offers students meaningful opportunities to grow personally, professionally, and as leaders within their communities.

“Leadership begins with curiosity, grows through connection, and becomes meaningful when it creates space for others to feel valued, heard, and empowered. I am grateful for OLCE's commitment to fostering leadership development opportunities to all students at UNCG.” -Lauren

Congratulations to Noon and Lauren on this accomplishment and their continued commitment to leadership, connection, and community engagement at @uncg

I am so thankful for this opportunity and can’t wait to continue my journey! I have accomplished so many things in my first year of college and have gone through a lot of redirection. I am so thankful for the true reward and that’s having people who care for me by my side ♥️#LeadatG

I am so proud to announce that I have received the Outstanding Student Leader Award for my Interior Architecture cohort at UNCG!

Thank you to the faculty that advocated for my recognition and for your continual support for my academic journey in design. 💙💛

Beginning this program, my main goal was to learn how to improve my sketching and spatial planning, but IARc has pushed me beyond my expectations. This program has revealed that you can continue to impact others while you are still growing and that your goals are not the end of what you are capable of. Being in an environment where I am surrounded by encouragement and wise direction has continued to enhance my innovation and my passion for design, which I am beyond grateful for.

I look forward to seeing where the next two years in the program take me! #uncg #uncgiarc #interiorarchitecture
