We go back to the time our divisions turned to war, and bring you stories left out of the official history.

It was an honor to celebrate May Day with so many of the people with whom I've organized in the past: * Chuck Park, right before he was arrested in an act of civil disobedience with Sunrise Movement; * Jeff Gold, the founder of the Manhattan chapter of the Working Families Party and someone with whom I've canvassed for countless hours on progressive campaigns; * Anna Ruth Myers, a longtime constituent and supporter right here in SoHo; * Theo Moore, a former President of New Kings Democrats with whom I've spent years organizing against the corrupt Brooklyn Democratic machine; * The founders of Hands Off Greenwich Village, an Indivisible chapter that started in lower Manhattan to fight ICE; * Labor leaders like David Markus. And so many more. These are the people who remind us what May Day is really about. A day where we celebrate the work of movement and of solidarity in bringing about a fairer, more just, and more equitable world for workers. #mayday #handsoffnyc #noice #nowar #peoplepowered

We can celebrate the declaration of Juneteeth as a federal holiday, but we can’t let this become an empty or capitalized on promise. Black people and communities continue to face racist injustice and terroristic violence every day in a world that has always prioritized white supremacy over their liberation. This is a call to action - today, tomorrow, and everyday until we reach a world where everyone can thrive and where true joy emerges. See some articles, resources, and links to take action by clicking the linktree in our bio. & add your own in the comments below!

Podcast corner! I listen to a LOT of podcasts (mainly True Crime 😬 I know, I'm weird and I love it 🤘) but have made a shift in what I stick in my ears. I feel extremely fortunate to have access to all this incredible content to educate myself with. I am learning so much and these are just a handful of the podcasts I have on the go. The slides give more detail on some of them plus some specific episodes. I've also tagged them in the main pic here. But check my #walkandlisten highlight on my profile page, there's more on there too. I'll keep sharing as I go. With info this accessible, everyone should be carving out a little time per week to listen and learn. (I have a lot of time on my hands because well, thanks to the RONA I am still unemployed 🙄 but regardless of that, there's always time). Educate yourself. Seek it out. It's not enough to just assume it will come to you (or to turn a blind eye, check 👏 your 👏 privelage). To make changes for the future it helps to fully understand the past and the present. That means listening to and amplifying the right voices. Aka NOT white ones!!! Some of these podcasts are about times in history, some are about what's happening now. Some are just an awesome every day listen with a great mix of humour, some will make you shake your head. But it's all important and fundamental to permanently change the colour of the content you consume. Now there IS a podcast in there hosted by Brené Brown (who is bloody brilliant) but it's a specific EP with Laverne Cox you should listen to. Black Women need to be at the centre of the conversation and the movement. If you're wondering why, just start listening to all this amazing content and you'll learn why. In the car, on a walk, in the shower, download a bunch of these and give them a listen. If you have any questions on them let me know but descriptions are shown in the pics. SWIPE AWAAAAY! And listen. Not all of us can afford to donate money, but you can afford to donate your time to learn. 🙏❤️

It's fascinating how many creatives have found this time more challenging than any of us could have anticipated. Today @aliceivymusic reveals the creative process has been a little strained for her, but all is not lost as this smasher managed to get her new album out into the world today. Congrats Alice on the release of Don't Sleep, and we can't wait to see the new material unfold on stage ASAP!

As the great team at @rowingincolor reminded us, the first step is to listen. So, why not combine listening with one of our favorite things to make our community, our country and our word a better place? • Our newest step in the journey is #steadystateandeducate • As part of “Steady state and educate” we are committing to listening and learning twice per week during steady state workouts so that we can be better citizens and friends. • A few of our favorite podcasts are listed here. You can also get the audio version of A Most Beautiful Thing by @arshaycooper on @audible • DM us with your suggestions! • We are stronger together. There is strength in our diversity. • Listen. Acknowledge. Course correct. • #blacklivesmatter #rowersforblm #rowers4blm #unityindiversity #strongertogether #summerreading #meaningfulchange #actionsnotwords #donttalkaboutitbeaboutit #dothework #bethechangeyouwanttosee #pnwrowing #tacomarowing #rowersforblacklivesmatter #plu2024 @plu_2024 @plu_rec
