“As an artist, I must be careful to surround myself with people who nurture my artist - not people who try to overly domesticate it for my own good … As an artist, my self-respect comes from doing the work … Throughout it all, daily, I show up at the morning pages.” ~ @juliacameronlive

A joy to have been paid visits by both @opticalresolve (Kirk Klocke) and @fark_mafar (Mark Fortin-Reed) - both of them much-appreciated nurturers of my artist - while rereading the penultimate chapter of “The Artist’s Way” - Recovering a Sense of Autonomy - and showing up at the morning pages today. Cheers, friends!

Born in Tacoma, Washington, Donalds love for music began at an early age. Originally a disciplined student of classical music, he was well-versed in the upright bass and violin. Any aspirations Donald had to continue in the classical vein vanished once he heard his first house record. With an ear for blending music already under his belt, and a love for the energy and soul of musical prodigies like George Clinton and Funkadelic, Donald began to amass a collection of house records which he taught himself to mix with a pair of mismatched turntables and a Radio Shack mixer.

Before Donald few DJs had attempted to spin house records. Donalds fine ear helped him give birth to a new style. After mastering his craft, Donald began DJing in various clubs around Tacoma and Seattle. During that time he made several important connections which would launch his music to the forefront of what was quickly becoming one of the largest underground movements since New Wave in the late-70s. Perhaps the greatest connection Donald made was with another aspiring DJ and friend, DJ Dan.

Together Donald & DJ Dan sparked the rave scene in Seattle and developed large followings. Knowing that Donald possessed an energy and ability to work the crowd that was unparalleled to anyone else on the circuit, Dan convinced San Francisco legendary Funky Tekno Tribe to bring down his good friend Donald to play at one of their parties. Donalds talents quickly made him a permanent fixture on F.T.T.ís roster.

Lets Welcome Donald Glaude back to the 505! Saturday October 21st @juno_abq 8pm to Midnight. $10 at the door. 21+ only.

Donald Glaude has been an inspiration to me since I was a teenager. He continues to grow and develop as an artist. I am lucky to have witnessed him play countless amounts of times in Seattle growing up, am proud to be his friend, and even happier to bring him out to Albuquerque with DJ Chris Losack & Astro Zombies comics. We have a great and diverse scene out here with loads of talented artist. We are lucky enough to have two of the best in the city join us. Tim “The Rev” Reynolds, Yvette “Vettaluv” Christine, are going to help Chris Losack and me set the mood for an absolute legend. Don’t sleep on this one. It’s only $10 at the door and 21+ only.

What a bomb Sunday & Monday!!! Checked out my first Communion …. what an amazing group of people & such a fun community. My new Sunday spot🤍 the next day headed off to Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. Les, you literally blew my mind. Was beyond lucky to see this Animals Rendition, best Floyd cover ever. Closed out the night with Twine. Super gnarley & funky, had so much fun getting down to the jams.
