I got to preview @mommypais last week before opening, but it seems the word is already out on this awesome new takeout concept from @thaidiner. I heard they sold out their first day and its not surprising — once you've had their delicious flavorful Thai fried chicken, plethora of Thai influenced sauces, tropical frozen drinks and tasty sides, you'll see why too! Much like their Thai Diner concept, so much is comfortingly familiar but with fun different twists. Same Same but very different, in the most delicious way possible. 😋

If you were a fan of Uncle Boons or Uncle Boons Sister, it's no surprise @thaidiner, from the same creative minds, is the f***ing best 🔥

The space, inside + out, feels like it's been on this corner lot in #Nolita forever + is a total stand-out with its fresh take on noodles, salads, a raw bar + desserts. And yea, ordered the Thai Coffee Monster Cake (with a side of Mango Sticky Rice 🥭) because life is better with that guy in it 👻✨👹

No question Thai Diner should be near the top of any NYC must-visit list, even if it's for the fun, bustling atmosphere + attentive service. #NYCEats #ThaiDiner #Limeade #BetelLeaves #BaanSalad #ShrimpCocktail #KhaoSoi #SomTomPapayaSalad #UncleBoonsCrabFriedRice 🦀 #ThaiCoffeeMonster #MangoStickyRice

Banana Rum Pudding 🍌🥃 A staple on the dessert menu at Thai Diner. Not overly sweet because of the addition of their homemade Thai spiced rum. Layered pudding, whipped cream, caramelized bananas and gorgeous crispy lotus flower-shaped 🪷 sesame tuile cookie (dok jok) on top.

Also, just order all the things on the menu. I’ve never had a bad dish. Excellent spot that I always go back to.

I've always been a sucker for a frosty libation. Blame it on my Texan roots and an undying love for ice. When the sun starts shining, I crave my beverages in slushy form. This led me to discover Uncle Boons and their beer slushy.
Ann Redding and Matt Danzer opened Uncle Boons in 2013. Even before they earned their Michelin star in 2016, I was already in love - beer slushies (I've always been a man of the people, you see). Those icy Changs swirling around in a wooden barrel evoked nostalgic memories of my grandma churning peach ice cream in a tiny barrel during those sweltering Texan summers. The quirky charm of that place captured my heart, and soon, I was creating a treasure trove of memories while discovering exotic delights like fish eyes (think: gushers) and frog legs (now a must-have anytime they're on the menu). Uncle Boons became the go-to spot for job promotions, birthdays, and spontaneous celebrations. It was always bustling, yet a table was never too far from reach, and the staff exuded an easy-going vibe.
In a city where restaurants come and go like the seasons, the wave of closures during COVID forced me to reevaluate my role in the hospitality industry. When even a Michelin star can't guarantee success, there's a glaring issue with the system. After nearly two decades in the biz, I resolved to find a way to support the beloved bars and restaurants that shape and define our communities. By 2021, I began freelancing through connections who needed help rebuilding after the pandemic. I've since negotiated three leases, including two during COVID and a 10-year renewal, consulted on concept development, training, DOH, and more - just a small part of my accomplishments in recent years, but it speaks to the impact of small changes. Uncle Boon's, sadly, closed due to a lease disagreement but they were a big motivator for me in rethinking how I worked and who I worked with..
At the heart of what I do is hospitality—be it serving a guest or tightening a budget to keep the doors open, I revel in solving puzzles that benefit my community.
(And fret not - Ann and Matt opened Thai Diner and you better believe beer slushies are there. Thank you for what you do!)
