CAA SAAC Summit weekend 2026!

Two of our MSAAC representatives spent the weekend in Richmond, VA, connecting with fellow SAAC leaders and community members. This year’s summit featured various interactive workshop sessions, an amazing volunteer opportunity at the Richmond Boys and Girls Club, and lots of discussion and fellowship with our CAA student-athlete leaders!

Thank you to everyone who was involved to make this event happen, and a special shout-out to Alexis Hornbuckle, a former NCAA and WNBA athlete who shared a few words about the impact of mental health as a student-athlete. We appreciate the oppurtunity to share in this event, learn from and support our peers, all while creating real impact! #flyhawks 🤍💙

Today is International Students Day and we want to recognize our 34 international student-athletes who call 20 different countries around the world home. We are so grateful that these Seahawks are a part of our @uncwathletics family and have chosen to make UNCW their home away from home 📍

UNCW SAAC partnered with @projectlifemovement and @sweuncw to help cure leukemia, lymphoma, and sickle cell disease by collecting cheek swabs to help grow the amount of potential stem cell donors on the global registry.

Together they recruited 1️⃣5️⃣3️⃣ new potential donors to swab and save a life over the course of the past 2 days 💚#Swab2Save

Student-Athletes of the Month

✨Ty Lawson - @uncwbaseball Senior

Ty Lawson has shown remarkable dedication not only on the baseball field but also in the classroom. Balancing the rigorous demands of being a Public Health major, he has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA while competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics. Ty is also an active member of SAAC where he uses his leadership to represent and advocate for his fellow Seahawks. Ty’s discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence make him a true role model for his teammates and the Seahawk community.

✨ Jada Tuffin - @uncw_soccer Junior

Jada is a transfer student-athlete on the Women’s Soccer team who has made an immediate impact on campus since arriving in Spring 2025. As an Environmental Sciences major, she has a passion for sustainability and has organized an Athletes for Sustainability Clothing/Household item drive to collect donations for @sustaindub. Jada leads by example and always steps up to help with community service initiatives through SAAC and her Women’s Soccer program. We are so proud of the impact that Jada has had here at UNCW and can’t wait to see her continued growth as a leader.

Student-Athletes of the Month

✨ Miles Higgins: @uncwtrackxc Senior

Miles is making waves both on and off the field as our Student-Athlete of the Month. A powerhouse in the throwing events, he brings intensity and focus to the track every day — but it’s his quiet leadership and academic excellence that truly define him. Known for his discipline, humility, and drive, Miles consistently sets the standard in the classroom while representing UNCW with pride. Whether he’s training for his next big throw or tackling a challenging assignment, Miles leads by example and inspires those around him to aim higher.

✨ Gil Shaw: @uncwswimmingdiving Senior

Gil’s drive for success goes way beyond the pool. Along with consistently excelling in the classroom, Gil has also spent much time investing in her future career. This past summer, Gil interned with the Charleston County Coroner’s Office, gaining hands-on experience that will propel her toward her career goals post-graduation this upcoming May. She sees herself as more than an athlete, and we’re beyond proud of the work she continues to put in.
