October 14th, Portland OR's Misery Whip kicked off their month long US tour at the Shredder, also featuring special guests Deceased Fasciculation, also from Portland, alongside the local heavy hitters in Seppuku.

Seppuku kicked this late one off with a per usual crushing set of pure brutality. I'm hoping they'll have some more new songs ready for live shows pretty soon. I am DYING to hear that shit.

Deceased Fasciculation fucking RIPPED! Their bass player and drummer couldn't make it, but they had a fill in drummer and all 3 of these boys fuckin killed it! They're hardcore adjacent death metal with a thrashy and almost powerviolence kinda edge to me. E standard death metal is underappreciated, so it's cool to see these folks repping it! I look forward to hearing more from them in the future. This band is awesome.

Misery Whip then closed out the night with a concise yet lethal set of balls to the wall, pure mosh death metal with powerful messages. It was my fourth time seeing them live and they never disappoint.

August 22nd, I once again returned to the Shredder on a Saturday night for what would be a total ASSBEATER of a show. Final Resting Place made a pit stop with Discontent and Azshara, alongside Idaho's very own Ingrown, Cynocephali and Peace Limit opening up!

Peace Limit kicked it off with an EXTREMELY short but very killer set of pure assbeater shit. These guys are dope and murdered for their debut live set.

Cynocephali from Idaho Falls went on second and also had a VERY short set, but damn these guys are so sick. This band is very good hardcore adjacent slammy brutal death and know how to get people moving. They even closed out their set with an Eternal Suffering cover.

Azshara went on 3rd and absolutely DESTROYED with a killer display of real deal, no nonsense metalcore. They're great live!

Ingrown was the 4th act of the night and as always, went absolutely berserk for a rare hometown appearance.

Discontent was the 2nd to last act of the evening and I'd say they had the most violent set of them all. It got fucking CRAZY. Multiple fights broke out. Shoutout to Northeast violence.

Final Resting Place then closed the night out with an amazing set of pure evil heaviness that did NOT disappoint! It was really cool to finally see them live after years of being a fan. Their live sound is massive seriously. They ended their set with the slam from "Liege of Inveracity" by Suffocation, but then played "Mindless Obliteration" a SECOND time as an encore, which was super dope!

May 25th, I returned to the Shrine Basement for some Monday night hardcore madness! New York's Combust came through on tour with Fools Game and Forever War, alongside local support from Seppuku and World Asylum!

Kicking things off was the live debut of World Asylum, featuring the return of the Boise hardcore legend Alex Marshall (Grave Titan, Swarm Beating, Natural Evil, Witness Chamber, Dead 2 Rights and many more), as well as my other good friends Sam and Kit! This band is more on the late 80s side of old school hardcore sounding stuff, it's pretty fast paced and very energetic, but they still brought the assbeater riffs and overall did well for their first show! I look forward to music from them in the future.

Seppuku was the 2nd act of the night, and per usual, they kicked so much fuckin ass and got people moving like crazy! They are straight up the scariest and most violent Boise band since Swarm Beating if I'm being completely honest.

Forever War was the midway point of the night and they fuckin ripped! These guys have a ton of energy and are one of Utah's best hardcore bands, hands down. This was my 2nd time seeing them and I look forward to seeing them again sometime in the future!

Fools Game from Pennsylvania was the 2nd to last act of the evening and god damn these guys rip fuckin hard. Something about their sound and vibe just scratches an itch ; it feels old school and "true, real deal hardcore" to me, and that's captured really well in a live setting too. This was my 2nd time seeing these guys as well, and despite a technical issue with the mic at one point in their set, they knew how to play it off and keep the show entertaining and overall killer! You can't go wrong with good ol PAHC!

NYHC warriors Combust ended off the night with an outright DESTRUCTIVE desplay of old school new age hardcore that demanded movement the whole time. The mosh parts, the pile ons and crowd engagement with this band is fantastic and I love their vibe all around, they have slowly become one of my favorite modern hardcore bands over time. This 2nd time seeing them also felt extra satisfying since I'm alot more familiar with this band now compared to a year ago.
