does accessibility hurt cult appeal?

part of finding an artist early is feeling like you found something that wasn’t really meant for everybody yet.

then the audience grows, the references get explained, the ‘niche’ become tiktok sounds, the aesthetic gets copied and suddenly that little world doesn’t feel as private anymore.

but getting bigger isn’t always the problem.

some artists keep that cult feeling because the fans are attached to the history, the eras, the leaks and the little details that casual listeners will never care about.

maybe accessibility doesn’t hurt cult appeal.

maybe it just hurts the feeling of ownership that made the cult so strong in the first place.

and thats where it gets weird. because fans spend years asking for their favorite artist to blow up, then miss the version of them that nobody knew 🫶

can an artist really get huge without losing some of that magic?

thank you for reading, follow @corrupt4culture for more. love y’all family 🙏

are producers becoming more important than rappers in the underground? 🤔

from f1lthy helping shape the entire sound of wlr to bnyx playing a crucial role in yeat’s rise, it’s becoming harder to ignore just how much a producer can influence an artist’s entire identity. the same can be said for dracofm, tdd and perc40, whose work with osamason and the slime krew camp has helped define an entire wave of underground music.

at this point, some producers have built sounds so recognizable that fans can identify the beat before the artist even opens their mouth. producer tapes like wegonbeok are also proving that producers can build their own fanbases and carry projects without needing a rapper to be the main attraction.

so the question is, are producers becoming just as important as the rappers themselves, or are we finally giving them the recognition they’ve always deserved? 👀

do we actually want artists to be original?

everybody says they want something new until something actually sounds unfamiliar.

the funny part is, a lot of the music we call influential now probably sounded weird, unfinished or straight up bad to people when it first came out. sometimes the artist isn’t missing. cuz sometimes our ears just haven’t caught up yet.

and once the sound finally clicks, suddenly everybody can hear the vision. then the copies come, the influence spreads, and the same thing people were clowning gets called ahead of its time.

maybe originality was never supposed to be instantly comfortable.

sometimes the whole point is hearing something and not really knowing what to do with it yet 🫶

which nostalgia core hits the hardest?

its weird because when people talk about nostalgia, they usually talk about the big things.

but most of the time its the tiny stuff that really gets you.

the old loading screen. the sound of someone joining the party. the exact song you used to replay while doing nothing. the toy sitting on your desk. the group chat that hasn’t been active in years.

none of it felt important while it was happening.

it was just normal life.

then a few years pass and somehow those random nights become the memories you would do anything to experience one more time.

maybe nostalgia isn’t really missing the game, the music or the era.

It could be just missing the version of yourself that still thought there would always be another night exactly like it.

if you could go back to one of these eras for just one week, which one are you choosing?

and thank y’all for reading 🫶
