The magic of escape room design. When we lay it all out in a graphic way, there are sure a lot of parts to an hour long game!

April Photodump!! 📸✨️

Mostly of Montreal bc that's where I spent a lot of this month AND ALSO I forgot to post about it sooner whoops 🤪

But overall, April was such an amazing month of making new friends, and making lovely memories with old friends too!

I also climbed two mountains* (*probably technically hills but hey!)

Work wise I launched a new video game, started some fun new projects, and most excitingly got to do an Enigmarch puzzle collab with one of my favourite creators (I'm looking at you @enigmida haha).

In short April will be a fun one to remember! But for now, tonight is beltane and I'm off to see the beginning of the season in style 🥰

Canadian Escape Rooms! ✨

I actually have SO MUCH to say that I'm probably going to take some time this weekend to write a long-form article on @theeescaperoomer about my experience... For starters, I can't get over how escape rooms in Canada GENERALLY have so much more space than UK and European ones. But hey, I'll save that for the article!

The coolest thing about playing Canadian escape rooms was being able to meet and play with some of the most amazing puzzlers in the world. I have so much love for you all goddamnit 😤😤😤

Anyway. The rooms! Here were my top 5!

(Photos in no particular order except the last one which is a bonus of how excited I got in one room haha)

Honorable mentions to Salutem Medicina Institute at @immersia_jeuxdevasion for which I spent most of the time with my eyes closed, and Opus Luminum at @ezkapaz for which had a very cool museum-themed briefing and set!

5. Murdoch Mysteries at @secretcityadventures

Based on the popular Canadian mystery TV show, Murdoch Mysteries was a fantasticly fun experience at the beautiful Casa Loma in Toronto. It's public bookings - which was so unusual to me, as I'm more used to the European style, and we were in with 12 strangers!

4. Robotocalypse at @omescapecanada

Giant robots, enough said! I love sci-fi rooms, and Robotocalypse was a fun one with a well balanced briefing / first section, and a fantastic finale which I'm still buzzing about weeks later.

3. The Ice Cave at @daydreamtoronto
2. The Dream Portal at @daydreamtoronto

These two go together because GOSH HOW PRETTY! Seriously, Daydream will forever remain in my memory as "the coolest set design". It's more art-installation-with-puzzles, but the team did a wonderful job.

1. The Forgotten Cathedral at @escaparium

Last but not least, I finally get why everyone kept texting me to visit this. The Forgotten Cathedral is next level in it's set design, VFX, and story.

20 hours to go on The FairyTale Files Kickstarter from @unicornconservationco (renowned escape room designers and makers of the Society of Curiosities)! They're well-known for the quality of all their experiences, and I can't wait to check these out. They have reimagined classic fairy tales into "immersive escape room style experiences in which you interact with physical game components and also chat with characters, suspects, and witnesses in real-time to solve the case!" Do yourself a favor and go check them out! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/societyofcuriosities/fairy-tale-files

• TWO BRILLIANT MINDS
As the world continues to battle an unrelenting pandemic, I witnessed multiple business closures in the past several months, sadly including our beloved escape rooms. When the news broke that Kauai Escape Room will have to halt their operation indefinitely at their Kauai location, it broke countless hearts.

Yet, it was the very same reason--the vile coronavirus--that introduced a new remote escape room play phenomenon that brought together all the people in this post. I still vividly remember participating in my very first remote Zoom play that connected me with Michelle and Yacine, the innovative creators behind not only Kauai Escape Room (@kauaiescaperoom), but also Society Of Curiosities (@societyofcuriosities) which has garnered accolades galore.

The friendships that I continue to foster with them, along with a handful of bloggers all over the globe, help my blog site--and me as a person--to mature in ways I haven't anticipated just mere months ago.

And I am sure, in a similar way, my good friends Michelle and Yacine will continue to grow, cultivate, and strive for greatness of new heights in their future endeavors. Hardships do not destroy talents. When the world goes dimmer, talents, like an unwavering flame, shine even brighter.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to witness and experience two wonderful and -literally- magical creations, "Curse Of The Tiki Lounge" and "Quest For The Lost Continent" before their hibernation. The amount of dedication and effort these owners put in to host our "just because" games exceed all expectations, as always reflected in all their projects.

With Society Of Curiosities going strong, and a new Kickstarter on the horizon, I invite all my readers and followers to check out these two, and shower them with love and support!
