Want to stand out as an intern?

Here are some practical ways to become a stronger employee, build your network, and make the most of your internship.
After spending time in Washington, D.C., here are a few tips I’ve learned along the way:

1. Be reliable. Show up on time, come prepared, meet deadlines, and follow through on your commitments.

2. Take initiative. Don’t always wait to be told what to do. Look for ways to help, ask for additional responsibilities, and volunteer for new opportunities.

3. Ask questions and take notes. Be curious, listen carefully, and apply what you learn. Showing that you want to understand the work goes a long way.

4. Communicate with your supervisor. Keep them updated on your progress, ask for clarification when needed, and be open to feedback.

5. Network intentionally. Don’t limit yourself to the people you work with every day. Attend professional events, introduce yourself to people in your industry, and take advantage of opportunities to meet professionals with different backgrounds and experiences.

6. Follow up after meeting people. Send a LinkedIn connection request and always send an email thanking them for their time. If you have a conversation with someone whose career interests you, ask if they would be open to an informational interview. Building a network takes consistent effort, not just collecting connections.

7. Build genuine relationships. Networking isn’t just about what someone can do for your career. Be interested in other people, listen to their experiences, and look for ways to stay connected and support them.

8. Pay attention to the details. Double-check your work, proofread emails, and make sure you understand an assignment before submitting it.

9. Be willing to do the small things well. Every task matters. Showing that you can handle smaller responsibilities builds trust and creates opportunities for greater ones.

10. Make the most of where you are. Take advantage of local events, explore your city, and build relationships outside the office. Your professional and personal growth doesn’t have to stop when the workday ends.

A morning well spent dwelling in His presence. 🌿🤍

So grateful for every sister who joined us for worship, community, and time in the Word. What a beautiful reminder that there’s no better place to be than in His presence.

Sisterhood, we love you! 🫶

Housing Up’s 2026 Back to School Drive was a huge success and we couldn’t have done it without you. Thanks to the generosity of our Community Sponsors and supporters, we were able to assemble and distribute almost 350 backpacks ahead of the 2026-2027 school year. With your help, hundreds of children across DC will start the school year prepared, confident, and ready to learn.

We want to extend a special thank you to our Community Sponsors for providing backpacks and school supplies to entire Housing Up communities:
- American Bankers Association
- Holy Redeemer Catholic Church
- White & Case LLP
- Transwestern
- Generation Supply
- Union City Church
- Protiviti
- Timber Pizza

We had a blast at our 3rd Annual Summer Carnival! Kids and grown ups enjoyed classic carnival food, face painting, carnival games, and a bounce house! With so many volunteers keeping kids safe, caregivers were free to relax and connect, too.

Thank you to our church partners who volunteered and provided support @passioncitydc, @unioncitydc, and @ourgenesischurch. We couldn't have done it without you!
