🌿 MANY PATHS, ONE QUESTION

What do we keep searching for?

Across the world, for thousands of years, human beings have been asking some of the biggest questions imaginable.

Who are we? How should we live? What does it mean to be good? Is there something greater than ourselves? And what happens when our time here is done?

Different cultures and faiths have explored these questions in their own remarkable ways, through sacred texts, stories, teachings and traditions.

But how much might we learn by taking the time to listen to one another?

I’m starting this page as a little journey through the world’s religious and spiritual writings. Beginning with the Bible, we’ll explore the Torah, the Quran and other traditions, one small passage at a time.

We’ll look beyond complicated language to explore the wisdom, the moral lessons, the questions and the ideas that have helped people make sense of life for generations.

Not to prove one religion right or another wrong. Not to pretend that all beliefs are the same. And not to tell anyone what they should believe.

Just to read, reflect, ask questions and remain curious.

Perhaps we’ll discover things that unite us. Perhaps we’ll find differences that help us understand one another better. Perhaps we’ll encounter ideas that challenge us, comfort us or make us look at the world a little differently.

And perhaps, along the way, we’ll find that we have more in common than we imagined.

Many paths. One question. An open mind.

You’re welcome here, whatever you believe, or even if you’re not sure what you believe.

Let’s explore together. 🌍

A surprising number of people are laboring under the notion that Wiccans and other Pagans do not believe in God. In fact we do. We may not see the God of all like other faiths do, or even as another Pagan might. But we do. So here is a simple prayer graphic I posted to Redbubble. If a Green Witch needs this prayer right now, maybe others do too. Please feel free to share if you think it worthy.

We celebrated the legacy of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Queens (UUCQ), which has served our community for more than a hundred years, at their last service this week. It was a bittersweet moment for a congregation that welcomed people like me, supported struggles for social justice, and helped establish the Flushing Interfaith Council. Lewis Howard Latimer, who founded UUCQ in 1908, was its most famous member, overcoming his family's enslavement, teaching himself to draft patents, inventing the carbon filament (making possible Edison's light bulb), and becoming a poet and artist. While UUCQ closes its doors today, it opened possibilities for so many throughout its history. What the world needs is more unitarians! #ActivistNY

Love your haters & hope for their personal growth.

They haven't yet learned that their negativity and judgement is the cause of their unhappiness.

The jury has had the weekend to consider their verdict on Dr. Scott Warren, who stood trial last week for giving food, water and medical aid to two migrants as they crossed the Devil's Highway. This image was made for @uusc. Tucson, June, 2019.

U.S. Highway 80's legacy in March 1965 as the March from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. Viola Luizzo was the only woman killed during the movement by the Klan for shuttling black demonstrators from Selma to Montgomery on March 25, 1965. She was a Unitarian Universalist civil rights activist from Michigan. She was an Upstander for taking a stance against social injustice.

I voted my #UU values. No matter what you do today #govote and have your voice heard. #Vote for those you can not, and be their voice. Vote for the next generation so they will have a chance to thrive in a nation that values #diversity and is always on the #SideOfLove.

It is hard to believe that this coming Sunday, I will be giving my first sermon @tvuuc and as only an undergrad student @mtsu as well; many aspiring do ministers do not get this opportunity until much later in the academic studies.

#WednesdayWisdom: As we extend #LovingKindness and #compassion towards others in ever-widening circles, may we also remember to extend them to ourselves as well, for the work of #SocialJustice and being on the #SideofLove can take a lot out of one of us in our everyday lives.

#TuesdayThoughts: I long for a world of #peace, of #love and of #SocialJustice, and I know you do too, so imagine with me what we could do if we all worked together #HandInHand, #SideBySide and made it so. #SideOfLove #imagine
