This Saturday, five South Side founders will take the stage to compete for a share of a $25,000 prize pool.

But before the pitch, there were conversations.

Over the past four weeks, this cohort participated in the Founder Readiness Sprint, engaging directly with customers, testing assumptions, and using the using the Readiness Intelligence Lab @readinessintelligence AI-powered workspace to uncover patterns, and gather the evidence behind their businesses.

From food access and community storytelling to youth engagement, photography, and experiential learning, these founders have done the work of listening before pitching.

We’re proud to have supported:

• Stacie Folk, Great Minds Escape @greatmindsescape
• Melissa Perez, Miel85 Collective/Fresa Media @miel85collective
• Jason Jones, Lakeshore Photos @lakeshorephotos
• Fenesha Hubbard Muhammad M.Ed., FEOM Expressions @thefeom
• Rhoanna Burrell, Chef Anna’s Authentic Island Flavor

Thank you to our partners for investing in founder growth and entrepreneurial opportunity on the South Side:

And a special thank you to Lisandra Martinez, J.D. @lm_rebello and Jason Rebello @jrmoments for supporting this cohort through more than 1,000 minutes of coaching and facilitation, helping founders turn community and customer conversations into evidence, insight, and stronger pitches.

We are so proud of this joint project and collaboration between @centro.sanar staff and clients and @kane_one_ ! We asked our community what healing meant to them and @kane_one_ created this beautiful piece for us all to enjoy and remember that we all ‘merécenos flores y sanacion’ (deserve flowers and healing). Thank you to our partners, clients, funders, friends and elected officials who came out to support our mural unveiling event on March 13th! We are so grateful for the way you each have contributed to Centro Sanar’s impact and success. Gracias @kane_one_ for wanting to support a southwest side organization working hard to support and accompany our immigrant neighbors! @ald.jeylu @repaaronortiz @almaanaya7th @unitedwaychi @eteyuyu @dapplesauce021

Transforming communities and creating opportunities is the core of the United Way of Metro Chicago’s mission, “We can change that.” At the March 13 Women United’s breakfast, speakers Deputy Governor Grace Ho and Linda Coberly inspired and encouraged attendees to abolish work-life balance, enjoy what you are doing, and get energy from it. #ProudtobeRSHC

This past Thursday, in a room full of friends and family, the Quality of Life Plan was presented to the community and the city as a whole. Seeing the room full of amazing organizations and community stakeholders was both energizing and inspiring. Days like these fuel the fire here at Urban Warriors to continue the work and build for tomorrow.

We want to echo some words we heard that afternoon by a few people, which was “ay más que hacer” which translates to “there’s more work to be done”. That’s true. The work never stops but we should all strive to reach that goal, the goal for all nonprofits should be to not exist. The biggest asset any society can have is its youth and the more we invest in them, the more our city grows.

A special shout out to the McCormick foundation, the Chicago Community Trust, United Way of Metro Chicago, Enlace Chicago and New Life Centers of Chicagoland for taking lead on such an important document for our community. Urban Warriors is committed to being there for the next one.
