Went to Elkhorn with @unkle_evan on 10.3.26 to shoot some portraits. I developed the rolls of film + a couple sheets of 4x5 and made contact prints in my darkroom. I’m writing a blog post on the session and will be adding shots to my website soon.

I look forward to making a trophy for the @mtskateparkassociation Madness in the Mountains contest every year! This year, I created a new set of Wild West-inspired illustrations, including this skateboarding cowboy riding a rearing moose, which I carved into a skateboard to make the winner’s trophy.

Check out this short video of the carving process, and stay tuned for a look at the full set of illustrations I created for the event!

Congrats to @unkle_evan on taking home the gold! If I’d known the name you were going to choose, I would’ve made the cowboy hat bigger!

Thanks @unkle_evan for including us in this scavenger hunt contest! MITM (Madness in the Mountains) is a Montana wide skateboarding scavenger hunt contest and food clothes was our mission!

I wanted to make a vest but that turned out to be incredibly difficult. So I made a bucket hat, @zwi_or_something_like_that had the genius idea of bagging the dough so we could tie it on, and @superlump painted the dough tiger print and brought her rat, Petunia, to join in on the fun.

Just another fun day at Dear Potato!

After the Ennis park soft opening, @unkle_evan and I camped out at a nearby reservoir. Next morning we headed to Butte as he could get points for Madness in the Mountains. Evan scopes the steep crete up the hill.

Spent the weekend with @unkle_evan skating, camping, fishing and making photos. We trekked out to Ennis for the new skatepark soft-opening and camped at a nearby reservoir. Sort of an echo from a couple of weeks ago attending the Philipsburg park opening and camping in the area, when these photos were taken. You’re a great travel companion and angler.

@biesus put on a comedy show at the end of last month at the Filling Station in Bozeman.

@unkle_evan found me in the back lot before the show. He and I would head to Big Sandy the following day.

I hadn’t been to the Filler in 7 years. Some things never change.

Dave and the boy check out the Golden Grain & Urethane Big Sandy zine before I hit the road. Thanks for putting on the gathering and letting me crash on the couch.

Last weekend, I prioritized old amigos, the open road, and skateboarding, and edited this fun little montage.

It feels like skateboarding, and the culture around it, had become a distant memory until my childhood friend @dougrevious pulled me out of my comfort zone by relentlessly texting me about a skate trip to Big Sandy. He drove from Portland, we met in Missoula, picked up some new boards from @boardofmissoula and drove north to Montana’s Hi-Line to have the best time with the best people.

I’m grateful I went and reconnected with old friends from such a formative time in my life. For a moment, I felt like a kid again… and I think I’m going to make it a point to skate once a week.

Take time for yourself. It’s worth the effort.

I love traveling with Evan. He’s down to stop on the side of the road on a whim to create. We were driving through Wyoming to Colorado in May when Evan sensed I wanted to shoot the lonely landscape. He grabbed his board as I loaded my camera and I asked him to push down the highway. First image is a print I worked on for my wall. Thanks for being cool, and for being you.
