Classes have started and this fall semester we are treated with Margaret Bohls’ “Making History” class, a fan favorite amongst the students. Here the students are digging through an archive of vessels for their first project. This class will end with an exhibition of the historical vessels made throughout the semester. The exhibition will be on display in the Eisetrager-Howard Gallery from November 30th-December 4th. More exciting updates right around the corner!

“drinkware dichotomies” is an exhibition that inspects the cognitive decisions that must be made when using and choosing a serving and drinking vessel. the installation enforces the idea of agency within the user and the ways in which they rationalize particular vessels within their own rituals.

“I use clay and glaze to create tangible visionary works that make my dreams and inner
truths visibly sensible in the external world. When working with clay, I am a mystic in
the realm of a dream. I channel energy through a primordial process involving earth,
water, air, and fire that connects me to the divine and my ancestors.
Through my work I explore the soul, spirituality, and finding divinity within the
geological world. Representations of subterranean spaces and sacred objects are based on
spiritual iconographies and mythologies of the past. Depictions of entities, beckoning
hands, portals, and fragmented earth imply the mystery of an afterlife unknown,
entombed and preserved. Thus, creating parallel worlds with moments of constant battle,
transformation, and erosion intersecting the alchemy of healing, strength, and protection
through an animistic lens.
My work focuses on anthroposophical origins as to how humanity and geology are
closely interconnected, it embodies the spiritual journey of the past. It serves as a vital
foundation for the growth of human awareness and comprehension throughout the epochs
of time. By utilizing materials of the earth, I induce an existence of ancestral beginnings.
This inherent connection to the land and material transcends time, weaving a palpable
thread between contemporary life and the ancient practices of our predecessors.”

MFA candidates at UNL are encouraged to explore opportunities outside of academia. These activities can range from workshops, conferences, residencies, and more, both national and international. There are also opportunities for grant funding within the college. If you are looking to broaden your horizons as an artist consider the MFA program at UNL.
