Another Year Flies By … literally

As the school year comes to a close I want to reflect on my second year competing on the UNL Hunt Seat Team.

Overall, it was a great season filled with many memories. Whether that was winning my first hunt seat class in IHSA, to building a snowman outside the arena, or even taking a bit of a fall, I will cherish this season forever.

Thank you to my teammates for cheating me on, my coaches (Lena and Hayley) helping me in and out of the arena, and my family for pushing me to do my best.

Her passion for horses started early — and it’s carried her all the way to a career. 🐎

Through Nebraska’s Equestrian Team, Izzi Velinsky gained more than time in the saddle. She found mentorship, built real-world skills and discovered a path forward. From long days at the barn to competing on the national stage, each experience helped shape what comes next.

Now, she’s headed to Oklahoma to begin her career as an assistant horse trainer — turning passion into purpose.

Today marked the first day of the @nebraska4h Horse Stampede! The event features a variety of 4‑H horse contests, including horse judging and hippology, and many that don't require live animals, including public speaking, demonstration, quiz bowl, art, and photography contests. My horse girl career is far (20 years now 😅) from its beginning, and far, far away from its ending. I’ve been so very lucky to be surrounded by so many incredible horses and horse people. I wouldn’t be where I am today without each and every one of them, including every single catch ride from college.
Today, my horse girl career continues with the purchase of my absolute dream horse #SmoreChrome (Graham). I’ve always looked up to the older girls who would ride these super young horses and make them into something amazing, and I’m thrilled at the opportunity to become one of them.
Another dream of mine has also come true by getting to teach and show with my mom ❤️ something we’ve talked about since my very first show.
Once a horse girl, always a horse girl

🎃🐴 Trick-or-treat meets trot!

Kids had a spook-tacular time at “Boo at the U,” hosted by the Nebraska Equestrian Team on East Campus — meeting horses, touring the Husker barn, and collecting treats along the way.

Double Trouble 🏆🏆

This semester has been one for the books. We traveled to both Kansas and Colorado for some of our regions IHSA shows. I officially pointed out of Level 1 and qualified for regionals!! Now I am showing in both horsemanship and ranch riding. This has led to two winning high point rider twice and one reserve. With an undefeated start to the season, as a team, I cannot wait to see what next semester brings! Also, big shout out to my coaches: Kelsey, Lena, and Hayley!!!

What a great first semester for my LAST year on the UNL Equestrian Team!! This year I get the honor to ride as the team’s Open rider in Reining and Horsemanship! My expectations were quite low since I was jumping up two divisions, but I am so proud of how this semester turned out!! With 3 first placings and a third in Reining and 1 first placing, 2 seconds, and a third in horsemanship! I am on my way to qualifying in both classes for regionals! The team also has a winning streak from all shows this semester! So proud of everyone!!! Can’t wait for next semester!!
