This group of guests were the afternoon installment on Fifth Avenue. We got the group shot with my adorable friend, The Little Prince out side of the French Cultiral Institute.

Some people needed to peel off to catch a plane or because they were tires, but this group made it to the end and we got the group shot inside the Payne Whitney mansion.

I’ve always said that one of my favorite things about living in New York City is being a tourist in my own town. ❤️🗽

Ever since I moved into the city in my twenties, I’ve loved taking walking tours. Sometimes I’d head out with just my camera, eager to discover the stories, history and hidden treasures behind places I’d walked past a hundred times.

And all these years later, I’m still fascinated with this city!

Yesterday’s adventure took me to Grand Central Terminal, a place I’ve passed through countless times but clearly never really saw.

That’s what I love about New York. No matter how long you’ve lived here, there’s always something new to discover. And I never get tired of discovering it.

Have you ever taken a walking tour in NYC? Tell me your favorite, or better yet, where should I explore next? 👟

TY @untappedny @giuliettanyc and I’d walk anywhere with @lindagambale + @ronaeg

Can a garden become a little TOO successful? 🌾
I've been fortunate enough to visit NYC's High Line a number of times over the years, and it never disappoints!
This visit took us from 23rd Street north toward Hudson Yards, and WOW, the grasses are thriving! In particular, Calamagrostis brachytricha (Korean feather reed grass) seems to be having quite the moment. Its soft, feathery plumes are spectacular in the fall, but in some areas, I couldn't help wondering if it's become a little TOO successful! The masses of Sesleria autumnalis (autumn moor grass) are equally impressive, creating incredible texture and movement throughout the landscape.
A couple of other plants really caught my eye. Rhus glabra (smooth sumac) was showing off its brilliant fall color, while Amorpha canescens (leadplant) offered a completely different kind of beauty with its fine texture and silvery foliage. It's those contrasts that make a planting so interesting.
The High Line is an extraordinary collaboration, with James Corner Field Operations leading the landscape design alongside architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and Piet Oudolf responsible for the remarkable planting design.
What fascinates me most is watching how this landscape continues to evolve. Nearly two decades after the first section opened, some plantings have become incredibly dense, and I wonder if a little of the original layering and complexity is getting lost in all that abundance.
But that's the beauty and challenge of naturalistic planting. Gardens are never static. Plants compete, spread, mature, and ultimately change the composition. Knowing when to let them do their thing and when to step in is part of the art of gardening.
For my fellow plant people, is this beautiful abundance or has the Calamagrostis become a little too enthusiastic?

I had a great time with a tiny group on the Brooklyn Bridge! Just this one guest who had deep knowledge of the city and pf archetecture so it was a challenge to show him new things!

One new view for him was my favorite view of both the Brooklyn and the Manhattan Bridges at the entrance to Brookly Bridge Park.

The Gilded Age is heating up as we get to the new season of the show! Even people who don't follow the ins and outs on 61st Street in the 1880s can appreciate these beautifuk buildings and the fun stories.

We got the group photo on the steps of the James B Duke mansion.

New York City has a long list of places where you can get a great pastrami sandwich but S&P Lunch, the historic luncheonette located across the street from the iconic Flatiron building not only serves one for under $20 but you can enjoy it on old-fashioned rye bread with a pickle served on the side, at their long lunch counter, bumping elbow-to-elbow with the person sitting next to you while watching the theater of each station move in the kitchen. It’s a real New York experience and one we really love and highly recommend. (Swipe left for 2nd interior photo of lunch counter). S&P Lunch was reopened in 2022 by Eric Finkelstein and Matt Ross in the longtime home of Eisenberg’s. (Swipe left for 3rd exterior photo). The team lovingly preserved the original sandwich shop which dates back to 1928, and serves dishes that approximate the past without romanticizing it. Its narrow interior is dominated by a vintage long lunch counter complete with twenty low swivel stools. The original wooden, mirrored back bar displays the daily specials and soups listed on changeable boards and a dual Tostato Ottimo flat grill is used to make a variety of grilled sandwiches, including a classic tuna melt, which we also recommend. No diner in New York City has become more famous and received more air time because of its neon red signage than Tom’s Restaurant in Morningside Heights. This family-owned diner which has been in business since the 1950s became famous in the early 1990s when its exterior was used as the fictional setting for the diner Monk’s Cafe in the popular TV sitcom Seinfeld, where characters Jerry, Elaine, Kramer and George were regulars. Though the interiors for the show were filmed on a soundstage in Los Angeles, this uptown Manhattan diner near Columbia University has become synonymous with the show and the interior is lined with Seinfeld memorabilia. (Swipe left for interior photos). Fans still travel from near and far to have a meal and take photos, but college students and neighborhood residents remain Tom’s bread and butter. Singer Suzanne Vega also famously wrote a song called “Tom’s Diner” about the establishment, having been a frequent customer while a student at nearby Barnard College in the 1980s.

Welcome to Ik-Joong Kang’s “Happy World,” comprised of tiles inspired from Kang’s daily drawings on the way to work while riding the subway. The tiny portraits, surrounded by Squire Vickers-esque Arts + Crafts tiling, celebrates Flushing, Queens — among the city’s most ethnically diverse communities — with city views, family gatherings and children playing. #subwaysofnewyork🚊 #nyctransit #nyctransitmuseum #mta #mtasubway My new book and interactive app has all the deets! https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/art-of-the-new-york-subway-adrian-brune/2a3bc1fd4d7c3e22 Buy local! This group had a lovely autumn afternoon for a walk up Fifth Avenue to talk about Gilded Age Mansions. We took the group shot at the Richard Morris Hunt Memorial, across the street from The Frick Collection, designed by...Carrère and Hastings?! To find out why this memorial is here, sign up for a tour!
