🏆 Distinguished Alumni Award honoree Troy Phillips was a first-generation UNT student and served as president of the Student Government Association his senior year, graduating in 1969. After serving in the U.S. Army, he graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1973 and has since practiced law in Dallas. In 1991, he founded the Glast Phillips Murray Zopolsky law firm and since that time have been its managing partner. Today, the firm employs 65 lawyers. In 2025, Phillips was honored with the UNT Alumni Impact Award from the UNT College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

Yesterday officially marked the last day for Dr. Harry Benshoff and Lesa Statler at UNT Media Arts. We are incredibly grateful for the many years of service that the two have put towards our program and its students.

Dr. Harry Benshoff has served students at UNT since 1999 and was department chair from 2022-2026. Many of his students will remember his media theory classes, including those about gender & sexuality in horror films.

Lesa has been with UNT since 2009 and has served as Media Arts’ administrative specialist. She handled scheduling of all courses, coordinating class times, and locations for every semester.

To Dr. Benshoff & Lesa, you will be missed and we can not thank you enough for your commitment to our students. Happy Retirement!

Take a look at some pictures from the past and a small party we held honoring Dr. Benshoff & Lesa.
