Printmaking at UNT's College of Visual Arts and Design (CVAD)

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

@francissssssco installed his work “te.xi.2” for MVC Cliff Gallery’s “Reavivar” exhibition. His work along with many others is open to the public for viewing from June 1 - July 2 as part of our Reavivar summer exhibition. Be sure to visit before the show closes!

From the artist, “The work is made of found objects in precarious situations that anticipate collapse. Light engineering and various mending strategies are employed to highlight characteristics of the discarded matter. Friction, compression and tension interface with delicate touch, resulting in balanced makeshift structures that are conditional and ephemeral.”

Shown: Francisco Josue Alvarado Araujo, te.xi.2, found objects, metal, tripods, wire, 7’ x 3’ x 8’

HUGE congratulations to @dallascollegetx Alumni Vanessa Carrera for receiving the Dallas Museum of Art’s Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund! Vanessa is a Puebla, Mexico-born printmaker working on her MFA at @csulb_schoolofart . With nature-based imagery such as hummingbirds, bougainvillea flowers, and the Tree of Life, her work primarily focuses on her memories growing up, her heritage as an indigenous woman, and the resilience of native culture in an ever-changing society.

Vanessa mentioned a calling to the color red when creating. The hue symbolizes the indigenous resistence from her Nahua heritage. Red is often used in Mexica codices or manuscripts and continues to present itself in contemporary Nahua culture.

As for upcoming projects, Vanessa will be attending a summer fellowship at @haystack_school for a woodframing workshop!

Make sure to visit her work at @azabache_patlache or at her website https://www.azabachepatlache.com/

WE DID THAT!!!!

After 5 long and short years, I have finally graduated with not just 1 BUT 2 DEGREES 🔥🔥 I couldn’t have done it without my family’s countless support and all the friends and mentors I have made along the way.

It feels a little bittersweet leaving a huge chunk of my life behind at UNT but with the confidence I have developed throughout these year and numerous amount of connection I have made beyond the campus I know I have found my path in life as a designer and artist. To everyone who has contributed to my growth as a person I want you to know I love you and wish the best for what is next for yall as well 🫶🏾
