☕️ The cover arrested my attention immediately, which is ironic considering how slowly the book rewarded my interest. #JustLikeHome #HorrorBookstagrams ☕️ The story itself is haunting. There are pages upon pages of anticipation, atmosphere, unease...and still I was waiting. But when the book finally decides to become the horror story it advertised itself as being, it is quite dreadful. #JustLikeHome #HorrorBookClub ☕️ The story itself is haunting. 🐾 Look What The Cat Dragged In 🐾 Penny spends her days drawing cartoon adventures of her and her beloved cat, Popcorn. When Popcorn goes missing during a blizzard, she's overcome with grief. She reluctantly agrees to pet-sit her bf's client's cat Godfrey but soon starts to notice exceedingly odd behavior and disturbances around the house... As soon as Rekulak announced this book, I was waiting in anticipation. A new book from Rekulak? With drawings? And CATS?? I did have one concern though which he was kind enough to put at ease immediately: no cats are harmed. People? Welllll... Rekulak always impresses me with how diverse his books feel to one another yet still maintain a certain overall similarity to his brand of storytelling; this was no different. It's such a wildly entertaining and uniquely crafted tale. The vibes go from campy to cozy to creepy and back again. While the ending did border on becoming a little saccharine, I'll allow it because I ultimately enjoyed this bizarre-filled ride. With over 80 illustrations, this one is a MUST for eyes; you'll be missing out on the full effect otherwise. However... 🎙...when I saw Stephanie Németh-Parker was going to narrate, I knew I'd have to listen as well! The combination of Rekulak's story, Horner's comics + Staehle's art, and Parker's performance are pure purr-fection and create the most immersive reading experience! (Nico & Gizmo were on high alert with those "mew's" 😹) ✨️ Thank you @macmillan.audio for the ALC + @woahitsdilsa for gifting me my physical copy; I tossed my CR aside and pounced on it instantly! ➡️➡️ Swipe for bonus cat content, and find out who's Popcorn and who's Godfrey in this household! . . Look at those endpages!!! When art imitates life (Nico's version) When art imitates life (Gizmo's version) Sorry, Nico. 😽 Did you guess correctly?!

This was a odd one for me. It started out as feeling like a bit of a cozy paranoia mystery, the middle I'm thinking, is our MC being stalked or is her really sus boyfriend a danger? Then we flip to, oh is she crazy and is Godfrey.. Well a cat or is he, it something older, more demonic and terrifying? After missing Popcorn, Penny is spiraling and I get it, I would too if one of my cats disappeared suddenly. So her bf thinks that pet sitting a friend's cat will help, but Godfrey is odd, but he's just a cat, maybe he's just super friendly, following her around, glued too her almost. Then the ending and that last part I had to rewind a few times, wow. 📢 The narration was absolutely great and made this a much more immersive read, I think that's what really kept me coming back to finish, I will be adding those two narration voices to my look out list, I love a good narrator. They had me absolutely invested in whatever was going to happen. 📢 I do have to say, this is absolutely not what I expected going on. 🙀QOTD🙀 So have you ever picked up a book and just been completely wrong about what you thought you were getting into? Sometimes it's fun.. Or finish this Look what the cat ____ ____ #anomalyreviews #booksbooksbooks #audioalc #alc

Thank you to @flatiron_books for the digital copy of this ARC and to @macmillan.audio for the review copy of this audiobook! 📗 ARC Review— Look What the Cat Dragged In by Jason Rekulak, illustrated by Doogie Horner & Will Staehle, read by Stephanie Németh-Parker ✨ Star rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 ⏰ Pub Date: October 13, 2026 📚 Read this book if you like: creepy cats, snowed in, creepy houses, “am I the crazy one,” disturbing illustrations, psychological horror 🌶️Spice: closed door ➡️ Swipe for synopsis 📖/🎧 Review: Penny Padgett is a cartoonist and author of a bestselling series of books featuring her cat Popcorn. So when Popcorn goes missing during a snowstorm, she’s devastated. Her fiancé encourages her to pet-sit a friend’s cat, Godfrey, to help her get over Popcorn. At first it helps, but then Penny starts having nightmares, and strange things start happening in the house. And Godfrey seems to be behind them. No one believes Penny, but she thinks Godfrey might not be an ordinary cat. This is a book where you need both the audio and physical copies. The illustrations in the book add so much to the story. I ran to my indie bookstore to get a copy after pub day. It’s hard to review this one without giving spoilers. Suffice it to say, I really enjoyed it. Penny is an excellent main character. And her found family rounded out the story. And the cats! Popcorn and Godfrey are wonderful. The writing really puts you in the mind of someone who is sure something is wrong but isn’t believed. And the ending was exciting and satisfying. The book is single POV, and the single audio narrator did a great job with the different characters’ voices and accents, including the meowing of the cats. Sound quality was excellent even at 2.5x.

✨ THIS WEEK’S NEW BOOKS YOU NEED TO READ - OCTOBER 13 2026 ✨ Let’s face it, October is an ABSOLUTE BANGER of a month for book releases this year. I’m continuously stunned at the sheer amount of books that are being added to the shelves each week that feel absolutely necessary for me to consume as soon as humanly possible. Anyone who knows me or has followed me on here for a while knows that it’s no secret that I’ve been waiting for this particular date, October 13th, with a level of anticipation that I think might be only matched in my life by the Christmas where I felt like my existence would be incomplete without a Nintendo 64 finding it’s way under the family tree. Today, As You Wake, Break The Shell from Becky Chambers arrives and I don’t think that I’ve looked forward to the release of any book with this much fervour. There is a huge part of me that wants to play hooky with work and life today and just read…but that would irresponsible, right? (Can someone just give me permission to blow off my entire day? Please?) Anyway, I hope that all of you have an amazing Tuesday and do everything you can to keep reading. 🦊 What book have to anticipated more than any other in your lifetime? 🦊 AS YOU WAKE, BREAK THE SHELL written by Becky Chambers published by Harper Voyager (@harpervoyagerus) releases on October 13, 2026 To say that I’ve been anticipating the first entry of a new duology of books from Becky Chambers would be putting it lightly. I am typing this the night before the official release of As You Wake, Break The Shell and I feel like a six year old kid waiting for Santa Claus - full of fear, desperation, hope and wonder all mixed together. Becky’s new work tells a story in alternating timelines about Signy, a botanist, and Cora, a pilot, that both call the rundown planet of Fortune their home. When a threat to Cora’s life brings her to Signy’s shop, a chain of events occurs that forever alters their lives. ROTTENHEART written by Kat Dunn (@katalicedunn) published by Zando (@zandoprojects) releases on October 13, 2026 Adding Kat Dunn’s Rottenheart to my list of books that I HAVE to read in 2026 was such a foregone conclusion that I don’t even thin
