Discover life and study at the University of Edinburgh Business School (UEBS)

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

From Edinburgh to Houston, Texas! 🇺🇸

For 2026 Saltire Scholar Shai, spending the summer with JAB Recruitment in Houston was about much more than developing her digital marketing skills.

As a Business School student at The University of Edinburgh, Shai took on her first professional office role, leading digital marketing projects, creating content and helping strengthen the company’s online presence.

But beyond the professional experience, the summer challenged her to become more independent, build new connections and grow in confidence while navigating life thousands of miles from home.

As a first-generation university student, Shai also reflects on what access to an international opportunity like this meant to her.

In her own words:

“Leaving Texas, the world felt simultaneously larger in possibility and smaller through connection. As a first-generation university student and woman of colour, I recognise what access to this opportunity meant in breaking generational barriers. Returning for my final year, I bring stronger analytical, entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills. I am proud to say my ambition now has experience behind it.”

Now back in Edinburgh for her final year, Shai returns with new skills, a broader perspective and a renewed sense of ambition.

A huge thank you to JAB Recruitment for hosting Shai this summer, and to Saltire Foundation USA for being part of helping make this opportunity possible.
