Exciting things are happening in our program this week! 🏒✨

Second-year student MaKayla developed and presented a business case proposal highlighting the value, potential impact, and need for nutrition education within a professional hockey setting. Her proposal to bring nutrition education to the South Carolina Stingrays for the first time was approved, and Wednesday she delivered her first team talk of the season! 💪🥗

We are so proud to see our students build the skills to advocate for evidence-based nutrition care and make a meaningful impact on the performance and well-being of South Carolina athletes. #GamecockNutrition

Mya, Cohort 2027, and Brianna, Cohort 2028, helped prepare pregame fueling for Gamecock Football ahead of the South Carolina vs. Mississippi State matchup as part of their performance nutrition supervised experience. These unique, hands-on opportunities give our students direct experience applying nutrition strategies in high-performance athletic settings—an experience that sets our program apart from traditional dietetic internships. 🏈🍎

This summer, 2nd year PND student Justin Henderson had the opportunity to work at the Charleston Air Force Base under the mentorship of preceptor Alaine Mills. During his rotation, Justin helped to provide nutrition education on fueling and refueling for the updated Air Force Physical Fitness Assessment, as well as nutrition strategies for pilots during 24+ hour flights. Great work!

spring recap:

We did it! This wouldn’t have been possible without the countless individuals who have supported me throughout graduate school.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s helped make this possible. From every undergrad, master, doctoral student to the faculty and most importantly everyone who’s participated in any of our studies.

The past 5 years in the @uofscsportsci lab have been incredible. I’ve loved my time with @shawnarent so much that I just couldn’t leave yet. Sticking around for a post doc with him and Dr. Julie Hughes.

Thank you Shawn for everything you’ve done to help me grow as a researcher, and I can’t wait to see what else we get to accomplish together. You are everything I needed in a mentor and friend.

Excited for this next step in the journey!

A way overdue post! Had a great time with this crew last week at the @nscaofficial National Conference in NOLA. It's always bittersweet when you realize this is the last time this particular group was going to be all together as @em_worley and @gianna__m are graduating and moving on. Ok, technically Gianna is staying around, but now she'll be a big, bad post-doc.

Also, much love as always to this awesome organization. I'm proud to get to serve as Vice President!
