LOOK WHAT I FOUND AT THE BOOKSTORE

I had to linger behind an old man hoping he didn’t snag this vintage War and Peace paperback, grabbed it the second he walked away 😂

Really excited about People From Bloomington too, I hadn’t heard of it before but the description sounded cool as I grew up not too far from there.

What new book purchases are you excited to get into soon?

Number 99! So close to hitting my goal for the year, and excited to do it with some awesome classics!

The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky is my 4th of his novels this year. Unfortunately I’d have to say I’m the most underwhelmed by this one. It has some really fun and engaging moments, and for the most part I enjoy the main character Mishkin.

The concept of trying to live like Jesus in the “modern” world as a concept for a novel is a really fascinating one, it creates a lot of really interesting conundrums in the story in which I found myself being more annoyed with the “Jesus” character. And that’s where I have to ask myself, truly, if Jesus were walking around today, would I be annoyed with Him too?

That underlying question probably pulled at me the most throughout the story, however I didn’t feel that there was enough story or stakes to drive the amount of conversation that occurred. This is something that up to this point the novels I’ve read of Dostoevsky’s handle really well, even in a conversation heavy, wordy piece like The Brothers Karamazov. The events that take place between conversation feel large enough to drive the conversations that occur.

If I’m not mistaken, the Idiot falls somewhere in the middle of Dostoevsky’s career and I think that’s evident in the way the story is written. I’m glad I read it, but I would recommend multiple others first to someone trying to start reading Dostoevsky.

What books are you diving into going into the Winter/Holiday season?

The Blue Books in my shelf always have to say in volumes. I don’t really observe too many colors when it comes to books, but joining this community really made me look more and I end up stacking them color-wise.👤 Hence thought of doing this #bluebookstack challenge with #whatsthisweek too. I mean combining them will be nothing more than great.

> AN EMOTIONAL AND AN ANTICIPATED READ
We all know the Kite Runner is a devastating book, but what else can I say when we all still recommend it to everyone! And Pachinko was really one of the most gorg anticipated Asian book I’ve read.

> NEXT BLUE
I’ve been gathering courage to order @jon.fosse books, for I love blank book covers first and it lures me so much, if it’s blank, coz such books have tons to feel inside them. So prolly the Septology.

>WHAT I’VE BEEN READING?
Just kids by @thisispattismith and man, I must not kid, one must read at least once for you get to feel so much, the cliché boho musicians, very poetic, The Chelsea Hotel, and smith’s evolution and her Bf and her lover Robert M and what not.. I must shut up.🤐

>WHAT I’VE BEEN LISTENING TO?
I’m late to Strong Girl Nam soon, and the OST Superpower was by this Kpop band ITZY( which I don’t really know) but loved their voices, and Die with smile by @brunomars and @ladygaga damn.. amazing. And some old-new ones in between.

>WATCHING?
As of nothing. I tend to write a lot in September, coz it has a perfect 30 day window of my own reasons. There’s something in the air and I love it so much, so I don’t binge anything with that idiot box and get myself a me time. But planning soon to start A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder.😊

>LOOKING FORWARD
Hhmm. Loads of things. My apartment decor is on the cards, starting a new gym soon, have to create some docs with RnD in historical fictions and I have to discuss it with some important people. And one more thing- I think, I’ll be spending the rest of my year with Dostoevsky books( I guess😌)
