POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

A home’s relationship with the land is visible long after construction ends.

Here at @theidahoclub in Sandpoint, tall windows frame the forest while an elevated deck creates a place to experience it. Wood siding and deep roof overhangs give the home a quiet presence among the trees.

Building in North Idaho means paying attention to what surrounds the home, as well as what goes into it.

What draws you in first: the architecture or the setting?

Building a home comes with hundreds of decisions. Some are easier to make when you can actually step inside them.

Is there enough room around the island?
Does the primary suite feel right?
Will that hallway feel too tight?
Does the living room flow the way you imagined?

Bring your blueprints into the studio and walk them at full scale - before a single wall goes up.

Less imagining. More knowing.

Two weeks, eight shoots, and every one of them came together because of people. A huge thank you to my clients, partners, assistants, and friends who helped tell the stories of these special corners of the world across the Rockies and the Pacific Northwest. Grateful for every one of you. 🤍

Most builders are afraid of steel.

We aren’t.

Steel asks more of a builder. Tighter tolerances. More coordination. Less room for “close enough.”

For us, that’s part of the appeal.

With more than 20 years of structural engineering experience behind Smithwright, Jason has spent his career working through the kind of complex structures and details that make homes like this possible.

At The Aerie on Schweitzer, steel and wood come together to create a home that could never be built quite the same way with conventional framing alone.

Complex doesn’t scare us.
It’s where we do some of our best work.

Why two?

Two faucets. Two dishwashers. And a kitchen designed for a house that was never meant to be enjoyed alone.

At @the.edge.idaho , those choices aren’t about more for the sake of more. They’re about a kitchen that can keep up when the house is full. Family coming in from the lake. Friends gathered around the island. Dinner stretching long past sunset.

Because the details that make a home exceptional aren’t always the ones you notice first. They’re the ones that make it work beautifully when it matters.

Design with intention. Build it right. Live it fully.

That’s North of Ordinary.

Some surfaces are meant to disappear into the architecture.

This bathroom is taking shape in microcement, a finish with roots in Spain that is hand-applied in thin layers to create a seamless, subtly textured surface. No grout lines. No visual clutter. Just depth, movement, and a quiet materiality that gets better the closer you look.

Paired with architectural niches and integrated lighting, the result will be warm, sculptural, and beautifully restrained.

A different kind of finish.
A different kind of bathroom.
