🌍 What to do when the world gets too hot? Start by rethinking our cities. We’re proud that superwien’s and @urbana_lab work in Kalamata, Greece, is featured in TOO HOT – Scorching Cities, New Ideas, the current exhibition at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM) in Frankfurt. As part of the Climate Challenge, our contribution highlights our ongoing World Bank project, Participatory Neighborhood Planning Processes in Greece. Working with local communities and urban stakeholders, we support Kalamata in developing sustainable, climate-resilient neighborhoods and translating shared visions into practical action plans. Because climate resilience is not just about greener streets or better infrastructure. It’s also about empowering communities, strengthening collaboration and making sure that the people who live in our cities help shape their future. 📍 TOO HOT – Scorching Cities, New Ideas Deutsches Architekturmuseum (DAM), Frankfurt On view until 7 February 2027. 🔗 Explore our Kalamata project: https://superwien.com/portfolio/participatory-neighborhood-planning-processes-in-greece-i-kalamata/ 🔗 Discover the exhibition: https://dam-online.de/veranstaltung/too-hot/ #superwien #ClimateChallenge #ClimateResilience #UrbanPlanning #ParticipatoryPlanning SustainableCities WorldBank Kalamata TOOHOT

Five days of learning by doing. 🏙️🛠️💚 During the Y-PLAN YouthCamp, Agioi Omologites became a living learning environment for 30 young people to explore how neighbourhoods work, and how they might work differently. Across the week, participants moved from observing and mapping the neighbourhood to identifying challenges, developing ideas, prototyping and eventually taking those ideas into the streets. They explored questions around accessibility, mobility, public space, neighbourhood identity, intergenerational connection and community life, not from a classroom, but by walking, listening, making, testing and engaging directly with the neighbourhood. The result? A collection of small, creative experiments that invited people to see familiar streets differently, and showed what can happen when young people are given the tools and space to actively shape the places around them. 📸 A few moments from the five days. Next up: meet the teams behind the interventions, hear the ideas in their own words, and find out what participants took away from the Y-PLAN experience. 👀 @erasmusplusyouthcy @idep_erasmusplus @socialtechlab @urbana_lab @opu_collective @mladiambasadorinis @toestand_vzw #yplan #youth #participation #urban #planning

#YPLAN #ParticipatoryPlanning #YouthParticipation #Collectiveaction #Placemaking

30 young people. 5 days. One neighbourhood. And one question: what could our streets become? 👀 The Y-PLAN YouthCamp brought young people together in Agioi Omologites, Nicosia for five days of mapping, co-design, testing and hands-on street activations, exploring how they can play a more active role in shaping the places around them. Parking spaces became playgrounds. Streets became stages. Public space became something to question, test and reimagine together. More stories, activations and participant voices coming soon. 👀 @erasmusplusyouthcy @idep_erasmusplus @socialtechlab @urbana_lab @opu_collective @mladiambasadorinis, @toestand_vzw #yplan #youth #participation #urban #planning

Hey! We are the communication team from the Y-PLAN Youthcamp, and we made this video to show you a little bit of Agioi Omologites through our eyes. During these days, we walked around the neighbourhood, explored its streets and discovered some of the things that make it special. It’s a place where different people and generations come together, to walk, enjoy art, discover its architecture, or simply slow down for a while. This Sunday, our neighbourhood is celebrating! Come and join us at Laoou Laou Festival, as the streets of Agioi Omologites go car-free for a day and make space for ur to enjoy the city and slow down. We hope to see you there and celebrate together a different way of experiencing our neighbourhood! Agioi Omologites, Nicosia | Y-PLAN YouthCamp 2026 Laou Laou | Sunday, 20 September

#ReclaimtheDialogue #URBANA #PrwtovouliaNewn #youthonyouth #Athens

📸 @demmekat + @urbana_lab team

🎨🏙️ A pocket park in Kypseli reimagined by children In Kypseli, Athens, one of the city’s most densely populated neighbourhoods, a small neglected pocket park became the starting point for collective change. Between October 2023 and June 2024, through the PlaySquare project implemented by @urbana_lab in collaboration with the 29th Primary School of Athens, this space was reimagined through children’s eyes. Through a participatory journey, students explored their neighbourhood, mapped their daily routes, identified challenges, and co-designed ideas for the park. Together, they created a collective mural reflecting their memories and vision for the space. The mural and the children’s presence reactivated the park, shifting how the community related to it and drawing attention back to a long-overlooked space. At the same time, the process faced obstacles, and not all ideas could move forward. Some of the children’s proposals to improve the space remained unrealised. Still, something had already changed. Today, around 2 years later, a new playground is being constructed in that same space, transforming what was once a forgotten corner. This story is not about instant success. It shows how small, community-led actions can reveal a place’s potential and contribute to larger transformations over time. 💬 Which overlooked corner of your city would YOU bring back to life?
