POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

An inspiring evening of conversation, reflection, and shared possibilities at Practicing Socially Engaged Public Art, presented by Korea Art Forum and SPCUNY and moderated by Gregory Sholette.

Created by one of my favorite heroic curators and public art producers, Heng Gil Han, the panel explored how socially engaged art creates space for dialogue, community, and imagining the world differently.

Thank you to panelists Nels Erickson, Martin Lucas, Sohhee Oh, Lucia Warck-Meister, Mashiyat Zaman, and Ricardo Miranda Zúñiga for sharing their experiences and insights into the possibilities and challenges of making art with and alongside communities.

Honored to be invited along with the squad. The evening continued with a wonderful gathering, dinner, and drinks at The Kunjip. Good conversation, good company, and people committed to making room for art and new possibilities.

A week after “Subject to…”concluded, I’m still thinking about the questions and exchanges it generated.

I couldn’t have asked for a better cohort of artists-in-residence to work with on my first exhibition as a NARS Foundation Curatorial Fellow! It was an absolute privilege to learn about your practices.

I’m grateful to Andrew Samuel Harrison, Sharon Kagan, Eun Yong Lee, Jean-Paul Mallozzi-Diaz, Lara Marino, Sophia Oppel, Peyton Peyton, Ping Wang (X), Wen Ching Hao, and Anna Antonia Yiaxi Savvidou for the trust and generosity you all brought to this process.

Thank you to the NARS Foundation team for your support, and to everyone who spent time with the work, joined a conversation, or came back for another look. I’m still taking in all these encounters & how much this exhibition meant to me! thank you! 🙏🏼

What does ASAP stand for? It depends on the week.

Artists Sitting and Pondering.
As Slow as Possible.
A Space for Art and Play.
Artists Sharing Artists’ Practices.

ASAP is our weekly artist-led gathering, where two residents take over the session and invite the cohort into an activity, experiment, conversation, or game.

So far this season, artists have sent the group on a scavenger hunt with @urcrunching and @peyton___peyton, created an exquisite corpse with @_amuseforchris, and explored the responsibilities of “the artist” in a conversation led by @sharonkagan and @sophia_oppel.

No two ASAPs are the same, but they always offer a space for artists to exchange traditions, perspectives, and creative approaches. We can't wait to see where the next session leads us to!
