We’re already into Week 2 of the semester and students have been busy down at the farm with their labs!! Our AVS 102 students have been learning about animal behavior, how to tie quick release knots, and about ruminant digestion and feeds while listening to rumen function! AVS 275 (Grass Class) students have hit the ground running with plant identification, learning the differences between grasses, legumes, and forbs. The anatomy labs have been practicing their anatomical terminology with the help of our fake Hereford! We love all of the opportunities for hands on learning in the AVS courses! #uri #uriavs #handsonlearning🙌🏻 #learningbydoing #animalscience #prevet

Going to pack a couple of days of the #wearestemsquad summer photo challenge into one - Day 12 SPLASH and Day 13 SUN-Day - here is Sara working on an experiment with the carnivorous aquatic plant known as bladderwort. These neat plants have traps underwater that catch small aquatic invertebrates - although I suppose tiny fish could be trapped also! Sara has been tracking the growth and predatory behaviors of these plants over the course of the season #scienceisfun #scicomm #scientist #thisiswhatascientistlookslike #scientistswhoselfie #scientistselfie #splash #summerresearch #bladderworthy #predatorprey #ecology #botany #summerofstem
