Dr. Van Sylve, known as the “Doctor of the Sweet Science,” has dedicated years to teaching, developing, and building fighters from the ground up.

A U.S. Army Veteran and former football player, Van Sylve brought something into boxing that helped shape the culture of JackRabbit: a true team mentality. He took the structure, discipline, accountability, leadership, and brotherhood he learned through the military and football and carried those principles into boxing, building JackRabbit Boxing Academy around a team of coaches working together to develop fighters.

What makes his journey unique is that he never boxed as a youth. Instead, he became a serious student of the sport, learning from some of boxing’s most respected minds, including his mentor, the late great Roger Mayweather, along with Eric Brown, Manny Robles, Adolph Pruitt, Jessie White, and others who helped shape his understanding of the sweet science.

Van Sylve took that knowledge, studied the details, developed his own teaching philosophy, and turned it into results. As a Pro & Amateur Coach and Head Coach of JackRabbit Boxing Academy, he has helped build and develop 13 National Champions, while guiding fighters from their first days in the gym through the amateur ranks and into professional boxing.

He also serves as Head Coach of USA Select Boxing, an international boxing program built alongside DJ Zamora and Jack Ballo with a vision of giving fighters opportunities beyond their local and national experience. Through USA Select Boxing, teams of fighters have traveled internationally, gaining valuable experience against different styles, cultures, and levels of competition while representing their team and country abroad.

His coaching goes far beyond combinations and conditioning. He teaches the science behind boxing: footwork, rhythm, angles, timing, defense, distance, ring IQ, discipline, confidence, and the small details that separate simply knowing how to fight from truly understanding how to box.
