Our Center is collaborating with @latinxusc on hosting a donation drive on campus starting Monday, Oct 5th for our annual LA Homeless Count Demographic Survey project. We are accepting feminine hygiene kits and travel sized hygiene supplies such as soap and shampoo/conditioner. Any amount is greatly appreciated and all items will go towards the 4,000+ unhoused individuals that we survey every year from December to mid-March.

HPRI Summer Fellows put learning into practice through Union Station Homeless Services’ Adopt-a-Meal program. Fellows worked together to plan a menu, organize ingredients and supplies, divide team responsibilities, prepare and transport food, and serve a meal to families. The activity required coordination, budgeting, food-safety planning, teamwork, and careful attention to the needs and expectations of the partner organization.
The experience also prompted fellows to consider larger questions: How does food insecurity intersect with housing instability, health, income, transportation, and access to services? What can a community meal provide beyond food? What immediate needs can volunteer service address—and what broader structural challenges remain?
By combining service with reflection and systems analysis, fellows developed a deeper understanding of both the importance and the limits of charitable food programs within the broader homelessness response system.
Thank you to @ushsnews for welcoming our fellows and helping them learn how community care can be delivered with dignity, respect, and thoughtful preparation.

🎓❤️💛 BACK TO SCHOOL CELEBRATION & SCHOLARSHIP 101

Honoring Our Donors. Celebrating Our Scholars. Investing in Their Futures.

One of the most meaningful traditions at Town & Gown of USC is our annual Back to School Celebration and Scholarship 101 Luncheon, taking place September 13.

This special afternoon brings together our Town & Gown Scholars and the donors whose generosity makes our scholarship program possible, along with our Board of Directors, Past Presidents, and Scholarship Committee members who help carry our mission forward.

At the heart of Scholarship 101 is connection. Scholars have the opportunity to meet the people who have invested in their education, while donors get to know the extraordinary students whose lives and futures they are helping shape.

And what better way to begin a new academic year than with a little Trojan inspiration! ✌️

We are delighted to welcome Emmy Award-winning journalist and fellow Trojan Alicia L. Quarles as our keynote speaker. A USC summa cum laude graduate, Alicia has built an extraordinary career spanning E! News, Good Morning America 3, the Associated Press, Entertainment Tonight, and more. Today, she is Executive Producer and Co-host of Positively Charlotte, as well as a journalism professor and passionate advocate for nonprofit causes.

Her accomplishments are impressive, but on September 13, the spotlight belongs to something even bigger: the powerful partnership between those who give and the scholars whose possibilities they help make possible.

❤️💛 Our scholars are the reason. Our donors make it possible.
That is Scholarship 101.
That is the heart of Town & Gown of USC.
Fight On! ✌️

Listen to Dr. Henwood's feature on @laistofficial AirTalk with Larry Mantle: “If the federal government is not going to fund affordable housing, who else will? If you look at how much of the state budget goes to housing and homelessness, it’s a very small portion." Listen to the full AirTalk at our link in bio!
