An actor-led networking initiative helping @utahshakespeare artists reach what’s next.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Apparently, I need a long walk uphill before I can decide what I think about a play.

Over the past few months, I made a small, unofficial repertory-theatre circuit: @osfashland with Grady, @usf_reach @utahshakespeare in the middle—which already received its own post—and, most recently, @americanplayers with Adam.

Three theatres. Three very different landscapes. A lot of plays. And, because this is apparently essential to the art form, a surprising amount of walking uphill.

The work was wildly different, but the same questions kept following me home:

What becomes possible when a company is built across a season rather than assembled for a single production? What happens when audiences watch the same artists transform from play to play? And how much of a theatre’s artistic identity lives outside the productions—in its landscape, its rhythms, its relationships, and the way people gather there?

Because theatre is ultimately built through people.

These trips gave me time with people I love, conversations with artists and colleagues, and the chance to experience the work alongside someone else. That isn’t separate from the professional or artistic value. It is part of it. Relationships sustain the person making the work—and the person making the work is part of the infrastructure, too.

I went for the plays. I keep thinking about the ecosystems around them: what they make possible for artists, how they create belonging for audiences, and what lessons I can carry home as we continue building great theatre for @milwrep

Also: repertory theatre apparently requires hills. Many hills. I require a sweet treat afterward to survive all this culture. 🍭🎭♥️

Five years. Eight shows. Four days.

Apparently the @utahshakespeare festival is no longer just another trip. It’s tradition.

Thank you, @usf_reach for bringing me out once again. It is truly an invaluable week and such a privilege to see all your work!
