It’s hard to describe UTO’s genres, but what first drew me to them was their ethereal builds into the dreamiest drops with big snappy drums. I get this feeling of moving in slow motion while everything else keeps going at full speed around you.
I debated even posting this because while researching, I found out that UTO disbanded at some point recently… but I find myself playing them so often that I thought it was worth it. It looks like @neysamaybe (½ of the band) might have a solo project coming soon…🤞

Record of the Week: When all you want to do is be the fire part of fire by @uto_itself

Released in 2024, this second album from Parisian duo UTO is a kaleidoscope of sounds that never stays in one place for long. They wrote most of the album separately before coming together to finish the tracks, and you can hear that creative process in the final result. It has a slightly fragmented feel, but it holds together in a way that feels intentional rather than scattered. It’s only nine tracks, but it’s packed with ideas: flashes of ’90s breakbeats, sleazy indie pop, and more experimental textures, all filtered through a slightly warped lens. It’s chaotic in all the right ways, but there’s also a consistent mood and emotional weight running through it that I find strangely beautiful. Highly recommended!✌🏼🛸

InFiné’s 91th release and @uto_itself’s second album, When All You Want to Do Is Be the Fire Part of Fire is the continuation of the duo’s exploration of uncanny, boundary-pushing electronica. Tracks unfold unpredictably, inhabiting a liminal space where dreamlike soundscapes intersect with club-ready energy.
