Uttlesford welcomes new Chair's Cadet for 2026/27!

Congratulations to Sgt C who has been appointed as the Chair's Cadet for the coming year.

He will support Cllr Bianca Donald at civic events across the district, helping to showcase the positive contribution of cadet organisations and young people in our communities.

We look forward to seeing him represent Uttlesford throughout the year.

Five years ago, I took a bit of a gamble opening an aquatics shop in Saffron Walden. Today, we’re celebrating 5 years! 🎉

I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better welcome from the town. We’ve got customers who pop in every week and others who travel miles to come and see us. It means a lot.

Has it been easy? Not always!
Running a small business certainly keeps you on your toes, especially with the costs of everything these days.

But getting to share something I love, help people enjoy fishkeeping and have a good laugh along the way makes it all worthwhile.

And there’s plenty more to come! A new website, more tanks and some exciting changes to the shop.

A massive thank you to everyone who’s supported us over the last five years. I really do appreciate it.

Here’s to the next five!

Todd 💙

In case you haven’t heard - we’re making a mini movie!

10 local businesses have got involved to make this magic happen and we’re so grateful for everyone pitching in and being a part of this.

The whole reason we wanted to make this film was to shine a spotlight on our gorgeous town of Saffron Walden, help promote us and other local independent businesses.

It’s taken just over 2 weeks to film in between everyone’s schedules with approx 12hours actual shooting time to produce a 8 minute short film 😮‍💨

🧟 It’s a zombie comedy, with inspiration and parody of the Shaun of the Dead film (if you haven’t watched it - you’re missing out. 10/10)

🎬 We’ve now filmed all the bits - on to editing!

👀 Keep your eyes peeled next week when we release the full mini movie!

We’re always amazed at how many people in Saffron Walden don’t know we’re here 👋

We’ve been in the flooring business for over 50 years, but somehow we still get people walking through the door saying they’ve only just discovered us.

📍 8 Station Street, Saffron Walden.

Carpets and flooring downstairs.
Beds, sofas, furniture and plenty more upstairs.

If you’ve never been in, come and have a nose around.

And yes… you’ve probably seen one of those vans around town too 😂

River’s Return has been accepted into the Big Syn International Film Festival! 🌿🎬 a part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals commitment at the World's biggest sustainability film festival #bigsynfilmfest26

Our film celebrates the people bringing Uttlesford’s rivers back to life. Local communities, farmers, landowners and conservation groups, each playing their part in restoring the waterways we share.

At its heart, it’s a story about what becomes possible when people come together. Small actions joining up, like tributaries feeding a river, to create something much bigger.

We’re so proud to see this story reaching new audiences. Thank you to everyone who helped make the film, shared their knowledge and welcomed us into their world

Deliveries of caddy liners, an information leaflet, and bin sticker are now underway in many areas. Have you received yours yet?

By using your WEEKLY food recycling service, you can recycle your food quickly. This keeps bad smells away from your general rubbish bin. 🚛

Last week the Uttlesford managers attended Parkwood’s Annual Management Conference. It was a great two days learning about the company’s focus for the year ahead. 🙏🏼 💪🏻

A highlight was meeting Jonny Wilkinson and hearing about the highs and lows of his rugby career 😍 🏉

We were also delighted that Beckie Reynolds, Uttlesford Contract Manager, was awarded the Regional Manager of the Year for South East AGAIN. The Uttlesford contract has had another brilliant year with several successful projects and investments, for which we are very grateful. 👏 😃

Additionally, Lord Butler Fitness Leisure Centre was nominated for the ‘Centre of the Year’ award and has been selected as the first Parkwood site to receive a new Reformer Studio that is due to open mid November! 😍 🏆

We would like to thank the Parkwood Directors, the head office support team, the local team and colleagues from @uttlesforddc . They have worked with us behind the scenes and played a huge part in the success of the Uttlesford leisure centres these past few years.

The best bit is that we have even more plans to improve the facilities in 2027. This continuous investment is so exciting for the team and the Uttlesford community who will continue to benefit greatly from the improved facilities. 😉🤭🤫
