3D4M at The University of Washington, we offer Ceramics + Metal + Sculpture + Glass.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

We have a 2 day hands on workshop with the wonderful April Felipe @aprildfelipe that runs from Nov. 14-15th. April will also be giving a free to the public artist talk in the Art Building at UW from 6-7:30pm on Nov. 12th.

This is the first visiting artist apart of a series in collaboration between SPCS and UW @uw_3d4m . We hope to have many more!

During the workshop, participants will create small sculptural relief tiles designed for wall display. April will introduce a variety of approaches to pattern, texture, and imagery, along with surface techniques including underglaze and cold finishes. Each tile will have a focus on meaningful memories or stories.

For more information check the link in our bio.

*This series is made possible in part to the Public Access grant we received from 4Culture @kc4culture

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art @bimuseum.of.art recently pulled six works out of my storage unit for an exhibition. Beginning with these oldies from MFA @uw_3d4m in 2010 and then several more including new work . Big thanks to Susie Pro moving company, my assistant Regina Bautista @reginazkorner, curators Greg Robinson and Dasha Moore , and everyone at the museum for helping me return from a long withdrawal from publicly sharing my work.

Hi, I’m Katherine Handziak, the designer and owner behind Loden Design.

My background in fine arts and sculpture continues to shape how I approach every project (flip through to see what I was creating in art school… yes, it looked a little different from what I’m designing today 😊).

Whether it’s a restaurant, a home, or a sauna, I’m drawn to spaces that bring people together and offer a sense of respite.

When I’m not designing, you’ll usually find me outside with my family and friends—camping, gardening, and spending time in our backyard. I also love creating art with kids (this summer’s big project: a bumblebee piñata for my 4-year-old’s birthday 🐝).

I shared more about why I believe restaurants need art just as much as they need food in my latest Field Notes post: Art in Restaurants.

The dragon princess.

There once was a young princess ever so fair. She dreamed not of balls, paupers, and fine wear but with the spirit of the sky and her mind so Braun and brave. She craved adventure but seldom had it ever come. One night, when the sky was at its darkest and the moon smiled down with a thin sliver in the sky, the young princess did embark on her wild endeavor. She grabbed her finest blade and stole the Knight’s armor in a single wave. She slipped outside the palace gates to go seek her fortune. Traveling through forests, past rivers, and all the caverns slivers, through ruins and to the tallest peaks. She looked up in wonder and in dismay as she followed her trail to fortune a dragon lay. Wrapped on top the peak so high, the princess did hurry for her victory was neigh. She rushed through the forest and jumped through the ruins to climb the peak where the dragon was stewing. Once she arrived, she exclaimed “Oh dragon, oh dragon what is your name for I have come to take it for fame!” The dragon then did sigh “on little princess, for all that its worth careful what you do or your fate could end up worse” the princess then did what she had sought and drew her sword and put in right in the dragon’s heart. The dragon exhaled and in his last breath he spoke of a curse that should have them both at last. And from that the princess grew into a tree and the dragons gold heart would always be with she. On the peak of a mountain the princess that had turned into a tree so tall her boughs and the dragon heart reached for the heavens in a sprawl. Forever and ever will we hear the brave princess in a whisper say “my fortune is right here and with me we both stay”.
