Minnesota Winds had its second season premiere conducted by the legendary Mallory Thompson with an incredible display of beauty, joy and profundity. This concert is a memory I will cherish and hold in my heart the rest of my life. Minnesota Winds created a community of students, teachers, performers and appreciators of music that were all there to celebrate the joy of a band concert.

I had the privilege to play principal on Maslanka’s 4th Symphony which opens with a horn solo that is completely alone. I probably should have been nervous, but I knew before I played the first note of the solo that it was for the most supportive audience and I wasn’t really alone. That’s the power of this special group and its community.

Thank you to the best horn section! It was an honor to sit and hear everyone shine on solos as we rotated for each piece. I can’t wait to play with them all again for the next show!

It was also amazing to see how many students from UWEC and Gustavus came to see the concert and to play alongside all my colleagues from both schools.
