For Lauren Kassawara, choosing a college meant finding a place where she could pursue her academic interests, continue playing the sport she loves and experience something new. This fall, the Seal Beach, California, native began her journey at the University of Wisconsin-Superior as an environmental science major and one of the first members of the Yellowjacket women’s lacrosse team.

The North Shore program is built on leadership and standards from day one.

Leading that work is Coach Hilda Nuutinen (@coach_nuutinen).

A Lakers alum (2020), Coach Hilda played NCAA Division II lacrosse at @nmuwlax , and this past summer was named the first coach in the history of the @uwswlax , preparing for its inaugural season in 2027.

Prior to that, she served as a Varsity Assistant at @hudsonwigirlslax , helping lead them to a state championship in 2025.

Clear standards. Intentional development. Building something that lasts.

Growth Over Glory.

I am excited to announce my commitment to UW-Superior!!

Thank you to all the people who had helped me out to get where I am today. If it wasn't for Coach Marsh getting me those quick tips on goal before my first game, I wouldn't be the goalie that I am now! Thank you, mom and dad, for spending so much of your time on me with traveling, equipment, and watching me play! You are my biggest supporter!

I am excited to be part of the new program with Coach Hilda for the Yellowjackets Womens Lacrosse Team.
GO HIVES🐝
