“Juneteenth 2026” (1/2)

Last month I had an idea for a Juneteenth photoshoot and up until this past Monday, it was truly just an idea, all in my head.

The concept of this shoot is essentially just the black lived experience. I wanted it to feel real and authentic so cookout/ family reunion seemed like the best way to capture it. After being apart of many shoots in the past in some shape or form, this is the first time that I’ve directed one myself so the opportunity was a very meaningful one; just having the chance to play and collaborate with some of my favorite people and create this world together.

Thank you so much to everyone involved! This quite literally wouldn’t have been possible without the help of this beautiful community— many more otw! :)

Finding community in Columbus felt like finding light when everything around me was uncertain.

When I first arrived, I was overwhelmed, my life had just been uprooted, and as a queer nonbinary person, I didn’t know what to expect. I was scared of being alone, unsure if I’d be accepted, and nervous to open myself up to new people.
But somehow, piece by piece, connection found me.

In just six months, I’ve met some of the most genuine, kind, and affirming people. The kind of people who remind you that you don’t have to shrink to belong, that you’re allowed to take up space exactly as you are.
And now I know this, deeply and without doubt:
I am loved.
I am seen.
And I am never alone.

If you’re in a season of change, uncertainty, or loneliness, I hope you find your people too. I hope you feel the same warmth, support, and sense of belonging that has changed me.

Here’s to growth, to courage, and to the beautiful communities that hold us up when we need it most.
