This visit to @mpmtikibar was a little different because I got to spend time behind the scenes with the team — and as a chef, I absolutely LOVE seeing what goes on beyond the dining room. 👩🏻‍🍳❤️
I was so impressed by the teamwork, from the kitchen creating Thai and Asian-fusion dishes, all the way to the Tiki bar bringing out some seriously creative cocktails.
And Sonny and the whole team — you guys were fantastic! 👏
Then came the cocktails… 🍸🔥
The Smoked Old Fashioned was smoky, rich and seriously delicious.
And the White Lady looked so delicate and elegant… but WOW! 😂
Delicate in look, definitely NOT in flavour!
What I loved most was the energy — good food, creative drinks, a great team and that fun, lively Tiki atmosphere. 🌴🥢🍹
Definitely a place to put on your Richmond, VA list!

🥢 Crispy Duck Pancakes – Pookie Style 🦆✨
Skip the takeaway and make this restaurant favourite at home! Crispy, golden duck legs with tender, juicy meat, wrapped in soft Chinese pancakes with fresh cucumber, spring onion, and plenty of hoisin sauce. Every bite is packed with crunchy, sweet, savoury goodness.
🦆 Pookie Style Crispy Duck Legs
Ingredients
2 duck legs
1 tsp Chinese five-spice
1 tsp sea salt
½ tsp cracked black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
1 tsp brown sugar or honey (optional, for extra caramelisation)
Rub the duck legs all over with the seasoning. Place them skin-side up on a rack over a baking tray and roast at 180°C (355°F) for 1½–2 hours, until the skin is beautifully crispy and the meat is tender enough to shred. Rest for 10 minutes before pulling the meat apart with two forks.
To Serve 🥞 Warm thin Chinese pancakes. 🥢 Spread with hoisin sauce. 🥒 Top with shredded duck, cucumber, and spring onion. 🌶️ Add a drizzle of chilli oil or a few slices of fresh chilli if you like a little heat.
Simple ingredients, incredible flavour—and far better than takeaway!

One chef's tip: prick or cut only the skin of the duck a few times before seasoning (don't pierce the meat). This helps the fat render out, giving you even crispier skin.
