Week 42 did not have a single dominant sound… 👀
It had range. 📈

Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, and Sydney all made the board, and no two tracks sat in the same lane.

@_jj.4k blended G-Funk and RnB on “Phaethon”, probably his best record to date. 🔥
@vahsoong and @h1frmda6 took Boom-Bap somewhere familiar and made it sound current on “Red Hoodie” 🤝
@d3tox_trc delivered a OneTake verse over orchestral trap on “MINDSET” 🧠
@lavez27 and @dkayontop rewqired Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” into a modern rap record. 🧤
@its_cleopatraaasyd stepped in front of the camera for one of her first visuals with her @bloodjuiceau OneTake. ⏰

Trap still leads the board, but the more interring movement sat around it. Melody is creeping into harder lanes.
Older sounds are being rebuilt for modern audiences, and artists are continuing to take more control of how their music looks, with VAH sharing a director credit alongside his release this week. 📈

It is also late in the year, and nobody on this board is winding down. D3TOX sounds like an artist already looking into 2027 👀

New boundaries, More collaborations…

Week 29 pushed the year of collaborations somewhere new.
It stopped being about who worked with who across cities. And it started being about who worked across genres…

🍬 “Candy Flipping” has massive collaborations energy, @whatsonot teams up with long time collaborator @alinapash , adding two Brisbane names to the mix with @jackblom_music reaching new heights, and @nerve.mp3 landed what could be his biggest career placement yet.

♟️ “Checkmate” was the tail end of the rollout for @indigomerkaba latest full length project: “YIN YANG”. Dropping with an extended visual and dual release drop heading into the album release last Friday.

📵 “Leave Me Alone” saw @yungmaynie_ expanding his range, dropping a track with a beat which halfway through that changes the energy completely, without changing the energy.

🐴 “Ketamine” Is @razeybaby_ second release of the year, adding to the momentum he’s created since his return to the scene. Leaving us with a track that might just be his best work to date.

🔥 “TURN IT UP” is the explosive return single from one of Sydney’s most notorious voices… 212H.E.A.T is back, and he isn’t being quiet or subtle at all. With a level of quality across the board that the scene hasn’t seen since the “Split Personality” video from ZacoBro

💦 “DROWININ” is the latest installment in @amarni run that hasn’t slowed down since early last year. With no visual yet, she’s keeping up her consistency without diluting quality, energy ,or aesthetic.

🤮 “Yuck” see’s Perth’s @vahsoong and @h1frmda6 linking up for a HoodTrap anthem that leans into UDG textures and themes. It also marks an increase in commitment from Vah, and it signals a small pocket forming around @goonie_records

Cross genre placements like Nerve’s haven’t been common on local shores until recently. As more artists experiment outside their own lane, releases like these reset expectations for where that reach can go.

Perth doesn’t get talked about enough in this scene….
That’s starting to change.

@vahsoong and @h1frmda6 link up for “Yuck”, a hard hitting HoodTrap anthem presented by @goonie_records , with visuals directed by @by_asmara

Dark synths, Heavy 808’s. Two very different cadences sitting inside the same uneasy pocket, and neither one breaks the flow.

It’s another chapter in Vah’s year of collaborations, and another sign of a small, tight network forming around Goonie Records in one of the countries most underrepresented cities.
