Le impressioni di Allen Ginsberg sulla New Wave: «I don't think the term NEW WAVE has reached the East Coast yet. I've been to CBGB's 15 or 20 times -- Denis Mercedes, Peter Orlovsky's girlfriend who's really a rocker, first took me there. But now i think the Mabuhay is a better scene. CBGB's a bit tired. The main result of protest music is usually more sexual liberation. The New Wave music is protest music, but its chied concern seems to be the Mockery of television, machinery, and decadence... » / #searchanddestroy #punkzine #vintagemagazine #newwaveculture @vale_research AB/ARchive #archivioandreabalietti

The Dogs are THEEE genuine rock ‘n’ roll living legends! The Ramones called them an influence, Van Halen opened up for them, they toured with Kiss, MC5, AC/DC,The Dolls, The Dead Boys and many other mind blowing shows from the 60’s to now. Loren, Mary and Rob are true rock ‘n’ roll Giants so come on down and hang out with all of us! Loren couldn’t be one of the nicest people you’ve ever met and would love to meet y’all. I couldn’t insist on another show for everyone to go to because The Dogs will blow your head clean off (and that’s kind of rare these days). On board will be my band The Ific, I think we do a pretty good job of entertaining all of you rock ‘n’ roll junkies. Somebody once told us we were a cross between The Headcoats and MC5, I’ll definitely take that!! And the crème de la crème, Ralph Spight’s juggernaut, The Freak Accident!!! you know Ralph you love Ralph and this band is amazing. Vale from ReSearch will be with us as well! Please please please come out and enjoy this show because The Dogs don’t live near here and we want them to keep coming back. See you there!!!!!

In 1980 at a Dils show at The San Francisco Art Institute. I was loving the live band and photographer @michaeljangsf caught this moment of unabashed revelry. Search and Destroy published it and now it’s transformed into a collage posted on the side of a bar at 25th and Folsom in San Francisco. I have to laugh and be proud, I am that girl! #punksandfreaks #sanfranciscoartinstitute #livemusic @angie_snetrem sent me this photo today. 46 years ago…yup. @vale_research My photo caption on the pic is wrong. @michaeljangsf took the pic, all rights reserved.

During a trip to San Francisco last July, I had a cool little conversation with V. Vale and asked to take his picture. Vale is perhaps the only original 1970s punk publisher who never threw in the towel. His journey in subculture media began in 1977 with Search & Destroy, San Francisco’s inaugural punk tabloid. Working out of the iconic City Lights Bookstore, he brought the project to life with $100 contributions from both Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg. In 1980, he established RE/Search, a project that profoundly influenced global underground culture and continues to fuel it today.

2014: Dennis Hearne snapped Vale watching Winston Smith signing his Dead Kennedys logo on my cast at James' and my first gallery, I ❤️ North Beach on Green St. Both will be with us 12 years later today at Mabuhay and you're still invited. UPDATE 8/20: Free Tickets are actually almost gone! Easy to get quick, though! https://panicbooking.com/backstage/event.html?id=672173 If it's capped, DM me. Join us at North Beach Now's History Happy Hour – San Francisco's 1978 Punk Politics Playbook and How it Could Save Our City Now – right in the City's historic punk pantheon, Mabuhay Gardens on Broadway. Thursday, August 20, doors at 6 PM. Lincoln Mitchell – Columbia University Political scientist and author of San Francisco Year Zero: Political Upheaval , Punk Rock, and a Third-Place Baseball Team – revisits the tumultuous times of the late 70s, the birth of the SF punk rock resistance, and how that movement met our horrific 1978 moment. Artist and activist Romalyn Schmaltz explores the role of art and culture – and specifically punk rock – in local political and social justice reform. How can we use our creative power to meet our moment NOW of wealth inequality, explosive rents, mass surveillance, and AI's dystopian promises? The program begins with cocktails and conversations at 6 followed by our lively historical and hopefully motivational public talk at 7, with Q & A to follow. Expect exciting guests and surprises, and plan to walk away with a blueprint for feeling better and an arsenal of options for artistic and ethical civic engagement. As I mentioned, confirmed guests include two folks who were there in the 1978 resistance pit: collage artist Winston Smith, architect of the DKs and Alternative Tentacles' brand identities, and Val Vale of RE/SEARCH publications. More TBA. #northbeachsf #sfpolitics #northbeachnow #sfhistory #sfpunk
