Words can’t describe this trip.
Everyone wants to go to Greece, but when your last name is Gonidakis and your dad was born there, you tend to get asked pretty often “Have you been there?” I’ve always had to tell people “no” with a bit of disappointment and even some shame in my voice. That all changed this week.
Along with my parents, brothers, sisters-in-law, and nieces, we met up with my dad’s cousins and had the vacation of a lifetime.
We started in Athens, seeing my dad’s hometown of Egalio, then setting off on our cruise to see Mykonos, Kusadasi/Ephesus (Turkey), Patmos, Rhodes, Heraklion, and Santorini. We ended the trip at our cousin’s beautiful beach house in Sounion.
The culture, the history, the people, the views, the food, and the hospitality were unlike anywhere I’ve been before. I will NEVER forget this trip, and I am already thinking of what I need to do to make my way back to Greece.
