Sunday was a frustrating day for @calebvanarragon, until it wasn’t. Read more about how one shot changed everything for the former @valpomg star at TheVictoryBell.com. Link in bio.

The first “commuter” course, (meaning a course that’s within a reasonable driving distance of Chicago but not in Illinois/Chicago area. You can play it and not necessarily *need* to get a hotel) is the @the_course_at_aberdeen in #valparaiso #indiana. My wife’s family lives in the Valpo/Crown Point area so the first few courses I’ll recommend are the ones I will play when we go and visit. -
-
Note- we are visiting next weekend and I am going to play @sandypinesgolfclub. I’ve been to a wedding there and it looks great. -
-
With the risk of sounding like Bill Haden’s Stefon- this place has got everything: grass range, affordable rates (I’ve never paid more than $35), interesting and challenging holes, and a good variety of length/hills. It’s the home of the @valpoathletics Golf teams. -
-
A some of the holes are in open fields, some in the woods, some in the marsh, and a few on a big hill. The back 9 is quite interesting. -
-
Holes I featured in Pictures:
-7: Uphill dogleg right.
-9: Downhill par 5, similar to the “great hazard” template
-12: short par 4 with a Marsh guarding the green. The flag is well over 10 feet high bc the green is blind to the fairway late in the year.
-13: tantalizing short but dangerous par 4. Very driveable but also very missable. -
14- long uphill par 4, tee shot over a pond.
15- another down then uphill par 5
17- longer downhill-ish par 3. -
-
Not too far from the city, a great value golfing experience. -
