Big News for the Fam! Join us in welcoming @valruns4margs as our newest Ambassador! 🎉🎉

If you’ve run anywhere in Pittsburgh, chances are you’ve felt Val’s incredible energy, whether she’s pacing you to a PR, cheering you on from the sidelines, or leading the crew!

Val is a driving force in our local running scene. Founder of @valsaidstation , a non-profit community-driven aid and energy station supporting Pittsburgh runners, co-founder of No Pace Run Club, and a member of the P3R Pace Team, she represents everything we love about the Pittsburgh running community.

She’s tirelessly out there serving enthusiasm, uplifting others on and off the course, all while raising the next generation of runners. 🏃‍♀️✨

She’s currently gearing up to tackle a massive lineup: the Pittsburgh EQT 10-Miler, the Marine Corps Marathon, and Every Woman’s Marathon! We couldn’t be more proud to have her on Team GBM! 🥳

Drop a comment below and help us officially welcome Val to the family! 💛🖤

Some runs make you feel like you’re on top of the world. Others make you question what you spend a lot of “free time” doing. 😅

I knew this was textbook recipe for disaster. Work the evening before. Upset stomach. Trying to get food (not enough) down, unsure if it was going to stay. In and out of the bathroom all night. Dehydrated. Exhausted. Time constraints for an away XC meet.

I did everything I could to mentally lean into the things I love about running. Being with friends. Glitter. Testing parts of my race-day outfit. Good music. The process.

I controlled what I could. Forced electrolytes and fuel down accordingly. Laid off the gas and took extra walks where needed. Didn’t stress about the miles not looking the way I’d expected or hoped.

All of this to say - most people want to show you the good side of running. PRs. Aesthetics. Cookie cutter, picture-perfect, filtered versions. 🤗

Not me. I’m here for the bad and the ugly, too. Because days like today happen, and I choose how to adjust. I decide what kind of mood to walk away from a run in, how much it fills my cup, how grateful I am to move my body.. even when it’s not pretty.

Thanks @traintorun_412 @jbird_412 @ash.is.on.the.run and @rhonsaker for listening to 853170 F-words and me swearing I hate running and will never do it again. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m still a bad bitch.

Feature Friday is SO BACK, and today we’re celebrating those cheering us on as we move through miles on the roads, trails, and waters. Swipe for four awesome cheering/race support stories and fun race signs!

Want to share your story or have a theme for Feature Friday? Send me a DM! Together, we go far 🩵

Running is an individual sport, but it’s so much bigger than just YOU. It’s community - the family who comes along for the journey, the strangers you meet who become friends on race courses, the connections you make during miles shared.. I want to create encouraging spaces where people know they’re not alone!

Favorite fan Friday!

I’m submitting my mom, Sue, and her best friend Dee. You can find the two of them at Broad and Vine - nearly every BSR since 2011- cheering, in costume and handing out goodies like freeze pops, mini ducks and secret bottles of fireball.  They recently got into ultra volunteering with Loopy Looper in NJ

I know as a runner that having spectator energy can be magic and it’s just a great boost during the race seeing a funny sign or having a stranger yell your name.

@shererstephanie is the best cheerleader a runner/tri could ask for! She’s made signs, coordinated friends and fam, and cheered me on in every tri I’ve been in.

Them: “When will you stop talking about this?”
Me: “no”

Adding context to this reel since the reach has become quite wide: this year, I completed two half marathons in Amish Country, the Garden Spot Village half marathon in the spring and the Bird-in-Hand half marathon in the fall. For several years now, these races together have been what gets runners the Road Apple Award, a plaque with fossilized horse poop on it. A road apple is the poop on the road from the horse in the horse and buggy combo that is the Amish folks’ method of transportation :)
