Happy birthday to my sister from the same #athleticbrewingambassador @rocketnessa . One day I hope to join team rocket and learn the ways of the donkey kick. Thanks for the stoke over the years. Look forward to more trips soon, climbing, dancing, skating, and more Mario Kart! Volunteer Spotlight: LADY CRVSH CREW Part 1! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The Bay Area Climbers Coalition recently collaborated with the LADY CRVSH CREW at an Adopt-A-Crag at Indian Rock in Berkeley. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The LADY CRVSH CREW was formed by Sabrina Padua in May 2018. Formerly, the group was named Lady Crush Crew and was changed to LADY CRVSH CREW, where the “V” represents the V scale in bouldering grades. The mission of the group is to bring women (trans and cis), non-binary, two-spirit, and friends together through outdoor or gym meetups, and stewardship through crag cleanups. Additionally the LADY CRVSH CREW brings visibility to the underrepresented demographic of climbers by sharing stories, pictures and video on their social media platforms. The group has now grown to having more than 20 leaders and ambassadors across Northern and Southern California. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We caught up with some of the Crew volunteers and asked them some questions about how they learned about BACC and what stewardship means to them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Maggie (she/her) learned about the BACC through her involvement in the local climbing community and her desire to help take care of local crags. She mainly boulders and sport climbs at Mission Cliffs and Dogpatch as well as Indian rock, Mortar Rock, and Great Stone Face. Maggie initially started attending LADY CRVSH CREW meetups and finds the group to be a very supportive and fun space. She is currently one of the SF Crew Leaders for the group. For Maggie, “Stewardship to me is honoring and taking care of the land that we enjoy and climb on. I want future generations and everyone to be able to enjoy this land and I want to respect the people who have lived on this land for a very long time.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Photo Credit: Vanessa Vun (@rocketnessa) If you have a volunteer story you’d like to share, please email info@bayareaclimberscoalition.org!

Ever wondered who the faces are behind the Lady Crush Crew account?! Meet our crew’s leaders Maggie, Vanessa, and Sabrina! 💪🏻💪🏼💪🏽 If you’ve ever chatted with someone from this LCC gram, most likely you’re talking to one of us three! 🩰 Maggie @mags.at.crags is a climber and ballerina from San Francisco, CA. In the past, Mags has been involved with organizing many of our community crag cleanups, as well as being our leader during the @yosemitefacelift conservation projects for the crew. 👩🏻‍⚕️ Vanessa @rocketnessa is a climber and a clinical lab scientist from the East Bay Area. She is also an advocate for those diagnosed with endometriosis. Don’t let her height fool ya! Nessa has led some meetups in the past where she’s taught climbers techniques and drills learned from her experience training with coaches! 👩🏽‍🎤 Sabrina @notsabrina is a climber and WOC small business owner of the retreat company @wildsideretreats. Sabs helped grow our community in Southern California with our ambassadors in 2019. After a short move back to the Bay because of the pandemic, Sabs will be living in LA once again with plans to lead more meetups and events for the crew! Together, with help from our awesome ambassador team throughout the country and overseas, LCC is here to provide a space for women to empower each other while also supporting inclusion and diversity in the climbing community. We are nothing more than your friendly neighborhood girl gang! 😉 For more information on upcoming events in your state, please visit www.ladycrushcrew.com Keep crushing! ❤️🤘🏽

Very humbling day at Mortar Rock. The rock here is so sharp, but this crag is a great place to train. I understand now why the Bay Area climbers are so strong 💪🏽. It was great meeting/reuniting and climbing with everyone (@rocketnessa @lilmateopotato @justanotherm1ke @nervousone). Got a good session on Fever. It’ll go down soon. Just need my skin to recover from the sharpness. You were right @indicator_indicator. 🪦 skin. I’ll come here and Mount Tam one more time before I leave next week. FYI, there’s only one really good jug (right hand). The rest are sharp @$$, 🧀 -grating holds. I guess if you climb here a lot, then everything becomes a jug. 🏔: Sunshine, V5 (6c), Huichin (aka Berkeley, CA). . . .

All the gym shutdowns in the past year has meant a lot of new outdoor climbers! Which is great, but what about when our local crags start getting loved to death?? This morning LCC leaders @mags.at.crags and @rocketnessa and ambassador @rtag helped @bayareaclimberscoalition spruce up Indian Rock Park in Berkeley, CA! Weeds were pulled and a huge pile of mulch was spread, which will help prevent erosion and keeps our landing zones safe! We can’t wait until we can do big events again, but in the meantime, don’t forget to take care of your local crags! Picking up trash and picking up your crash pads instead of dragging them will go a long way in keeping the space beautiful and safe 💕

We love the message in @rocketnessa post. We’re all in this together, so let’s continue to support one another. ❤️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ・・・ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #Repost @rocketnessa ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reminding myself that this wall is STEEP and to give myself grace and kindness for not being as “strong” as I want to be. But climbing has become less and less dominant in my life as I shift more of my focus on the community around me. I must admit my family and I immigrated to the United States without knowing the rooted sin of this nation. I didn’t fully understand the history only because it was white-washed and fluffed to hide the violence and suppression done on Black and Indigenous people. But there’s no excuse as an adult to educate myself. My heart hurts because as a Christian, I learned that Jesus want us to fight injustice, protect the vulnerable and love one another. For a nation that claims that it has Christian values, I am sad and angry with the misguided values. Remember what MLK wrote in his letter. I’m here to plead my friends who are following me. Please donate to your local food bank, support and amplify Black and Indigenous voices. Follow COVID19 state orders, regardless of how politicians don’t even follow the same guidelines. Be an example for the friends and family around you. I don’t have a huge platform but I’m not staying quiet. We’re part of the problem when we are bystanders.
