Listen, eight year old Jaron is screaming on the inside.

Getting to hug and love on some of my GOATs was a dream. If you know me, you know this was a moment.

Richard Smallwood has some of the best singers to ever bring his music to life. Vision has been the soundtrack of my life for over thirty years (to the point where you couldn’t tell little Jaron he wasn’t *in* the group).

I’ve shown their videos in countless presentations on vocal technique and musicality, and every single time, the room goes quiet. People are floored.

So even just getting to hug a portion of them meant everything.

To be honest, I was full-on fanboying. Shaking. Barely holding it together. Whew. I could barely take the picture. Haha.

And to top it all off — they know my work.
They appreciate what I do. That is a supreme honor I that I do not take lightly.

Thank you x a million. I am who I am because of what you all gave us.

Our only bedroom without windows! It has an attached sitting room and bathroom, both of which have windows. I was thinking last night that it might provide the best sleep in the house because you can get 100% darkness in here! #blkandhome

What a fantastic day for the gallery walk today, March 15, 2025, at @wellspringmanorandspa! Artists and art lovers gathered to connect and admire the incredible artwork on display.

Day 19: The DMV has many talented artists, and occassionally you’ll run into someone who is talented in multiple art forms. I met @vanessarwilliams1 when I was looking for a soloist to sing at a friend’s memorial service. Her bio on her instagram page says, “I paint and I sing a little.” What an understatement. As a member of #Vision and a sought after BGV, not to mention her solo performances, Vanessa clearly SANGS. Soon after meeting her I discovered her paintings and was instantly impressed with her use of bold colors which, in my opinion, brought her works to life. I have since collected several works by her, and recently purchased another.

As I sit on the eve of the celebration honoring the renowned maestro Richard Smallwood, my heart is filled with gratitude. Gratitude for his ministry, his music, and the gifts God placed in him—gifts he faithfully offered back to the world from the time he was a little boy.

Since the announcement of his passing, I have found myself immersed in his work. What began as a walk down memory lane became the most beautiful music appreciation experience I have ever known. I have listened deeply and repeatedly, and the things that have broken off of me simply from hearing the Word of God through song have been nothing short of miraculous.

Richard Smallwood’s music carries weight. His writing carries reverence. His adoration for God created space for healing, remembrance, and freedom.

One song in particular arrested me. “Holy Thou Art God” has always been one of my favorites, but this time was different. On the day of his passing, I had that song on repeat while cooking. And in an instant, the music shifted from performance to pure ministry. The anointing stopped me in my tracks.

I remember asking Alexa, “Who is this woman?” And let me be clear—Auntie can flat-foot sing. But this was not just singing. There was a pull. A calling. A knowing.

That was the moment I was reminded of her name, Vanessa R. Williams. A poet. A visual artist. A painter. A photographer. And that voice—captivating and unmistakable. Between Richard Smallwood’s music and her voice, I have been held in this same moment for weeks.

Richard Smallwood’s music captivated me, but it was the voice of Vanessa R. Williams that kept me. Her artistry, her writing, her reflections have been nourishment for my soul in this season. #riprichardsmallwood #vanessarwilliams
