Mom AND….HOST at the @uci_mtbworldseries World Cup Finals at Lake Placid. That ‘AND’ requires a lot of hard work, support, and time management. Becoming a mom has crystalized my passion to be on the mic at sporting events and to give female voice and expertise. Motherhood is an intensive and constant exercise in prioritization and it requires me to be very clear on what my priorities are. 🎤 is one of them. I now fully understand why parents bring their kids up on the podium. Because I created this human, nurtured her, kept her alive AND LOOK, I’m also on the mic hosting a World Cup. Boss Mom Moves.

Fun fact, the U.S. national championships for nordic combined are held in October, using dryland jumping and rollerskis. Niklas Malacinski and Tara Geraghty-Moats took home national titles this year in Lake Placid yesterday afternoon.

Peter Minde (@gonzoskijournalist) was on site for it all and has a full report, which you can read on the site now. Come for the racing news, stay for the explainer of the new Velocity Ski League and the interview with FIS NoCo Race Director Lasse Ottesen.

Additional fun fact: We are sending Peter to 2027 U.S. Nats in Birkieland! It will be the fifth consecutive year that Nordic Insights has boots-on-the-ground reporting from Nationals. Yay us. I will lose money on this venture. Peter, who is largely paying his own way, will lose even more money on this venture. If you would like to help him lose less money, slash support either the only or one of very few outlets showing up to cover these races in January, you can do so at https://tinyurl.com/nordicinsights (the fundraiser is also linked in the first paragraph of the article). Thank you for your consideration.

Anyway. Article up now. Link in bio.

XCO Lake Placid Men: Film

The odds and ends. The in-between moments and a little happy accident.

A few final frames of color film from @uci_mtbworldseries, starting at the U23 finish just before the elite women’s race and ending up with a film burn I’m not mad about.

World-class mountain bike racing, Adirondack fall colors, and a whole lot of inspiration! 🍁🚵‍♀️

Usually I’m the one racing, but being on the other side of the tape for the UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Lake Placid was SO much fun!

Watching the best riders in the world tackle these courses in person was something else. The speed, the skills, the atmosphere… absolutely incredible!

Safe to say I left Lake Placid with an even bigger itch to get back on my mountain bike. 💜
