i was walking home from the metro, knowing that i was performing this little ritual for the last time. i walked as slowly as i possibly could, greedily taking in the air, trying to absorb every bit of that moment. after two years of living on Vasilievsky Island, these views had become home to me — it was hard to imagine that tomorrow i would be on a train to Moscow with no return ticket in my pocket. even harder was the thought that this was my last night here, my last yoga practice, the last time i would step into my favorite little shop on the corner, the last time i would walk through my favorite courtyard. once again, tears began to well up in my eyes. i don’t think i had ever been this scared before. every step felt like a step into nowhere, into an endless abyss of uncertainty, and there was no turning back.
