A journey I’ll never forget 🤍

Two and a half years ago, Berfin told me about an ambassador role at Western Michigan University’s College of Aviation and I decided to apply. 🛫

As an international student, English is my second language. Learning how to lead campus tours, present confidently in front of native speakers, and run info sessions took me much longer than others. My face would turn red. The words wouldn’t come out naturally. There were moments when my struggles were mistaken for a lack of effort — and I was nearly removed from the position.

But I stayed. And I grew.

I wanted to build confidence in myself and I wanted to leave something behind for the next generation of international aviation students. The visa rules, the unspoken expectations, the things I had to figure out completely on my own. I didn’t want anyone else to feel that lost.

This role was never just a student job. It held some of my hardest moments: feeling hurt, facing discrimination, but also some of my most beautiful ones: helping others find their path in aviation, and finding friendships I know I’ll carry with me long after graduation, long after I return to Japan. 🇯🇵

Berfin, thank you for bringing me into this world.
TT, thank you for never stopping believing in me.

These 2.5 years are irreplaceable🤍
