✨ ARC Review ✨ 📖: Merciless by @vbrown.author 📚: Book 1 of the Toxic Ties & Bitter Lies Series Available now! Wow, I wasn’t expecting this book to punch me in the gut like this but here we are. I love V and her writing so much! Every book effects me differently than the last, but they always elicit strong emotional reactions one way or the other. This book... man this book was a completely different kind of betrayal than she’s written previously, and I definitely wasn't expecting that. We start with Colton in the hospital with his mom. She’s been sick, and the time has come to say goodbye. He knows there’s not a lot of time left, and he is desperately trying to reach his father so they can be with her in her last moments. When he doesn’t answer the phone, his mom’s nurse Charlotte, tells him she’ll stay with her so he can run to the house and wake up his dad and get him there to say goodbye. When he gets to the house, he walks in on a startling scene, and now, not only is he trying to process his mother’s impending death, but also this monumental betrayal the hands of the one person who he should have been able to count on. This is a truly devastating betrayal story, and it takes you through it. It’s relentless and heartbreaking. Colton is completely shattered by the events in his life and is trying desperately to hold the pieces together through his grief and rage. Life after unimaginable loss and devastation takes time to rebuild, and he learns that hard lesson in this book. You find peace and solace in places you never expected. You go through waves of anger, guilt and utter sadness, and he goes through all of it too. If you've ever experienced a devastating blow and have had to pick up the pieces and figure out how to rebuild yourself after, you can probably relate to Colton's character in this book. Although I will say, he definitely takes things to an entirely new level. lol This book was so good. It broke my heart, but I loved it so much! #arcreview #vbrownauthor #betrayal #romancebookrecs

I just finished this read, and I feel like I've been cut open. I've lived this story, except the betrayal came from my mom, and reading this took me back to my teenage years and many that followed. I don't think I've let go of all my anger, and Coltons anger resonated in me to my core. I've felt Coltons anger, rage, and felt his questions of "Why wasn't I good enough?" This was beautiful and heartbreaking and so real to me. Book overview “I regret nothing of our life, and I will choose you in every one that follows.” A father and son start to fall apart at the seams when the heart of their family reaches the end of her life. The night Bethany dies, Colton drives home in search of his dad, William, to say their final goodbyes. What he sees when he walks through the door of his childhood home sets the course of both their lives on harrowing, self-destructive paths. Loneliness seeks comfort. Pain demands vengeance. And a lifelong bond is forever changed. Is there any righteous path to revenge? How do you know when the punishment fits the crime? Merciless is a fast-paced, contemporary fiction, with the main themes of betrayal and revenge. It is the first book in the Toxic Ties & Bitter Lies interconnected novella series.
