What 117,599 reviews say about cafés around KL, in 9 charts: what coffee costs, where the specialty cafés cluster, the beans, who roasts their own, and where café searches are growing. I asked AI to read the Google reviews of 8,421 cafés around KL. Three things surprised me: 1. Coffee costs most in Bangsar: almost RM15 a cup, against RM9 in TTDI. 2. Specialty cafés cluster. 6 in 10 are within 10 km of Bangsar. 3. The beans. Reviews name Ethiopian beans most, and Malaysian-grown beans at 23 cafés. If you want a café you can work from, I put 1,348 of them in a free app: workcafe.my. It shows the ones near you by walking or driving time. No sign-up. If you have a café buddy, this one's for them. Brunch at @vcrlovesyou - easily one of my favourite cafe finds in KL so far, from the food to the coffee. ☕️✨ While they have a number of outlets around KL, I went to their Mont Kiara outlet, which has a beautiful glasshouse setting with plenty of natural light and a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. The Soft Shell Crab Burger was definitely my favourite - crispy deep-fried soft shell crab with onion jam, pickled cucumber, housemade tartar sauce and a furikake sunny side up, all tucked into the fluffiest buns. The combination of textures and flavours just works so well! The Truffle Scramble Smoked Salmon was another highlight, pairing house-cured gravadlax and creamy scrambled eggs with seeded sourdough, shrimp chilli flakes and Parmigiano Reggiano for a touch of spice and umami. We also tried the Pennsylvania’s Soul, which came with crispy fried chicken, waffles, sriracha mayo and chrysanthemum syrup. Loved the fragrant sweetness from the chrysanthemum syrup, though personally I found the drizzle of sriracha mayo a little too much resulting in the flavour to be slightly overpowering. Personally, I’d have preferred a sweeter buttermilk waffle to better balance the savoury chicken. I also lean towards waffles that are crispier on the outside, so this was more a matter of personal preference. 一家咖啡馆，真的可以改变一条街吗？ 如果你去过 VCR， 应该会发现它的位置其实有点特别。 不在最热闹的商场， 也不是一眼就会经过的地方。 它藏在 Jalan Galloway， 一栋建于 1927 年的老建筑里。 2013 年 VCR 开在这里的时候， 这条巷子并不是大家喝咖啡的第一选择。 但十多年过去， VCR 还是在这里。 而原本安静的 Jalan Galloway， 也慢慢多了一些新的店、新的人流， 开始变成 KL 咖啡文化里一个大家会提到的地方。 所以我觉得， VCR 有趣的地方不只是咖啡。 而是它证明了一件事： 有时候， 一家店不一定要开在人最多的地方。 它也可以先把自己做好， 慢慢把人带过来， 再让一个原本没人特别注意的地方， 开始有了自己的味道。 VCR 一开始也不是样样都已经准备好。 从咖啡和蛋糕开始， 后来慢慢加入 brunch， 再自己做烘焙、建立厨房， 一路边做边调整。 这其实很像很多本地品牌的发展。 不是一开始就知道什么是最好的答案。 而是做了以后， 听顾客怎么说， 看市场怎么走， 再一点一点调整。 所以今天大家来 VCR， 可能是为了咖啡， 为了 brunch， 也可能只是想找一个地方坐下来。 但当一家店能够在一个地方待上十多年， 它留下来的就不只是一杯咖啡。 它也成为了这个 neighbourhood 的一部分。 一家店可以带来人流。 但真正让一个地方留下记忆的， 还是那些愿意一直留下来的人。 也许这就是 VCR 最值得看的地方。 它卖的是咖啡， 但它留下的， 是一条街慢慢长出来的生活感。 #VCR #VCRCafe #JalanGalloway #KualaLumpur #KL NewNanyang 新南洋 KLCafe KLCoffee KLHeritage CityStories UrbanCulture MalaysiaCafe
