What a day! 🎉

Discover Your Possible 2026 brought together individuals with lower limb loss, caregivers, rehabilitation professionals, and community partners for a day centered around learning, connection, movement, and trying something new.

From gait education and conversations with rehabilitation professionals to adaptive sports, fitness, creative activities, and plenty of opportunities to connect, we loved seeing everyone discover what is possible in their own way.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, presented, partnered with us, and helped make this year’s event possible. We are incredibly grateful for the energy, enthusiasm, and sense of community you brought to DYP 2026.

Here are just a few of our favorite moments from the day. 💙

The Program Engagement Competition (PEC) is back! PT and PTA programs are invited!

Each participating program designates a faculty & student contact. Then earn points by completing engagement activities and getting involved with APTA Virginia.

In the end, one PT and one PTA program will be named Most Engaged Program, take home the coveted Golden Gait Belt 🪙(and receive $700 for the PT program or $300 for the PTA program) to celebrate their achievement.

Enrollment closes December 31.

Happy National Physical Therapy Month! 💪

It’s the perfect time to spotlight our nationally ranked PT program. We’re proud of our students, faculty and staff whose dedication and achievements help make VCU one of the premier Doctor of Physical Therapy programs in the country.

Did you know we have more than 230 clinical internship contracts across the U.S.? It’s just one of the many reasons students choose @vcudpt.

Researchers from across VCU joined patients, families and advocates in Washington, D.C., for the 14th annual Rally for Medical Research, calling on Congress to prioritize and increase funding for the National Institutes of Health.

Among them was Michael Kiefer, Ph.D., assistant professor in VCU Physical Therapy in the College of Health Professions.

Researchers from the College of Engineering, School of Pharmacy and College of Humanities and Sciences also participated.

Together, they met with five congressional offices to emphasize the importance of NIH funding for biomedical innovation and the country’s future STEM workforce.

🏫Class Dismissed! The final bell has rung on this year’s Gait Elective!

Over the course of six weeks, VCU DPT students joined Mission Gait for a focused exploration of gait assessment, clinical reasoning, and intervention. The course provided opportunities to connect foundational concepts with hands-on learning and examine gait across a variety of patient populations and presentations.

A special thanks to Christina Smith for contributing her expertise to the course and to our patient models for generously sharing their time and experiences! Their involvement provides students with invaluable opportunities to learn from real movement, real challenges, and real perspectives.

We are also grateful for such a fantastic group of students whose insightful questions and dedication to learning make these courses so rewarding! We look forward to continuing our collaboration with VCU 🐏, working together to ensure that all future PTs can walk away with evidence-based education, clinical skills, and confidence to help every patient - even those with the most complex gait presentations.

Geoff spent time this morning speaking to @vcudpt 3rd year students and answering questions regarding PT employment and the hiring process. It was great to see some familiar faces in former RPT aides Lauren and Kasey! Fun watching the professional growth of the great people we have work in the clinic!!!

For Dr. Paul Kline and his team, conferences like the World Congress of Biomechanics are a way to share research findings with audiences more quickly than traditional publications can. They also provide a broader platform for VCU and CHP and highlight the caliber of biomechanical work being done.

A few days late posting because we are SO sad about saying goodbye to the 2026 SAEP cohort. These students utilized the past 6-weeks to grow academically, professionally, and personally. We are so proud of all they accomplished and cannot wait to see what they bring to the healthcare field in the future. We hope to see you all back at VCU very soon 💛🖤
