‘Time’ by @alexishotchip @theblessedmadonna and @alvrzpat is out now!!

It will feature on Alexis Taylor's new Remix EP, out on 4 September, which includes remixes by @solid__wall, @djsashaofficial, and @jacklever . Stream the single and pre-order the EP on 12” vinyl now at the link in @alexishotchip bio.

Premiered on @nicholasgrimshaw @bbc6music yesterday morning.

Alexis said of the song:

"Marea (Blessed Madonna) and Pat Alvarez and I got together in a small underground studio and put together the embryonic version of this song in a moment of first (musical) connections, quite quickly. Marea told me she never let her own voice be on records usually, but Pat and I encouraged her to include her singing. It’s beautiful.

“Even touching time isn’t time enough” is her own hypnotic riddle and is a fascinating hook I think.

The lyrics and melodies beyond that came from me - a song I was writing about someone losing their mother. Imagined scenarios dealing with death and loss and a life being remembered and honoured. You know, cheery stuff for a house track.

Pat and I worked on the music on further sessions with @solid__wall partner @vedellucas , and I enjoyed trying to give the guitar an underwater feel; Neil Young’s ‘Will To Love’ was being channelled for that element, and the Beach Boys’ ‘Til I Die’ also with the added (Mellotron) vibraphone parts.

I think the song is an unusual and emotive mix of powerful epic ballad with house-leaning dancefloor track. Who knows how to dance to such a thing?"

‘Time’ by Alexis Taylor, featuring The Blessed Madonna and myself, is out today.

I first met Alexis @alexishotchip through Teneil @haaihaaihaai while we were working on her record. We kept in touch afterwards and really connected over music.

It started with a chord progression that came out of messing around with the Juno 106 when we first got it. I showed it to @theblessedmadonna and we both thought it could be the start of something with Alexis, so we invited him down to our basement studio, our clubhouse, and started trying things.

Alexis brought this beautiful lyric that talked about losing someone very close to you, and Marea had this idea about expanding the concept of time, repetition and how we could translate that into the production. We started looping our voices saying “even touching time isn’t time enough”, and something special started building.

Months later, @vedellucas joined us for another session, pulling things apart and where we experimented with drums, synths, guitars and effects. Then Alexis and I got together one last time to finish the arrangement and add the final touches.

I love how this one slowly found its way.

Very special to finally have it out. ❤️
